More squeee!

[livejournal.com profile] copperbadge is having his regular charity fic-a-thon. Basically, if you donate to a charitable cause, he'll write a drabble/flopsy for you. You can read what it's all about here

Below is the flopsy he wrote for me. Based on Terry Pratchet's and Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens". Take it away, Sam!

In the end, it was all so archetypal.

"You," Crowley said in surprise. "They sent you to represent your side?"

"Who better?" Aziraphael asked. "I thought they'd send you, to be honest."

"Well, shall we then?"

They sat. Crowley spread out the chessboard; Aziraphael set out the pieces.

"Chess for the fate of the world," Crowley said, as he made his opening move. "I like this sort of armageddon better."

"Do you?" Aziraphael asked. "It's so hard to cheat, in chess."

They played for hours; slowly the heavenly and diabolical hosts drifted closer to watch, murmuring amongst themselves whenever one of the players scored another's piece.

Finally, Crowley hissed softly.

"You'll have me in three moves no matter what I do," he said.

"Shall we call it check and mate, then?" Aziraphael asked. Crowley looked over his shoulder, then back, and nodded.

There was a great cheer from the heavenly host. Dark had conceded; Light had won; et cetera, et cetera.

As they were packing up the board and pieces, Crowley suddenly paused.

"How many pawns does your side have?" he asked, staring at Aziraphael's case. The angel looked back at him, innocently. There was a furious moment of silence.

"You cheated," Crowley hissed. "You had an extra pawn!"

"Sometimes that's all it takes, dear boy."

"You cheated! You're an angel! You're not supposed to cheat!"

Aziraphael shrugged, and smiled, and patted him lightly on the shoulder. "You must be rubbing off on me," he said gently.

*sigh*

LJ appears to be playing up today.

We have d_floorlandmine (and itsjustaname too it seems) as a mutual friend and he said that you would be interested in coming to a dinner party/buffet thingy where we all sit around and listen to a certain Brummie after dinner speaker talk about aeroplanes. :) I thought I'd better drop you a line and check if a) you knew about it already and b) if you did, whether you were coming!
