So today I headed back over to [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch's for the "What Goes Up, Might Come Down" dinner party. This got planned after [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine mentioned the recording above and a few of us intrigued those who hadn't heard it before by swapping funny quotes. A dinner party was considered to be an excellent excuse to gather and listen to the recording as it was originally an after dinner speech. Hee!

I drove over in the most torrential rain and was eternally thankful I'd been over the route yesterday when it was a hell of a lot easier to navigate. It would have been most unpleasant trying to do the same today for the first time. I arrived safely however, and joined [livejournal.com profile] kelemvor and [livejournal.com profile] adelpha. There was happy geeky gossiping for a while, until the subject came around to food and we all realised we were starving. [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch produced bowls of feta cheese, tortilla chips, olives and dip and there was a surge towards the table and demolishing of nibbles. Then the main course appeared. Slow cooked beef in red wine for the carnivores, pasta bake for the vegetarian (which looked seriously good) and rice and soda bread for all. Mmmm!! My compliments to the [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch!

We sat around for quite a while after the main courses until our food had sunk and then [livejournal.com profile] itsjustaname disappeared to grate chocolate onto the lemon mousse she had made. OOooooooooh!! [livejournal.com profile] itsjustaname, any chance of the recipe for that please, it was GORGEOUS!! :D (In fact, I think it was me whimpering at the mention of the grated chocolate that convinced her it was time to serve the dessert :))

More yakking later and we finally settled down to listen to "What Goes Up Might Come Down." It's a joy to watch others enjoying something you're familiar with and I was delighted to see it appealed to everyone else as much as it did me and the others who'd heard it. In fact, [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine and I occasionally traded looks of gleeful anticipation because we knew what lines were coming next. Halfway through, the phone rang and it was actually a relief to take a break, because several sets of ribs were now hurting quite badly. At one point, [livejournal.com profile] itsjustaname was turning the same shade of purple as her dress!

(Quick aside here: [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch and [livejournal.com profile] itsjustaname looked fabulous!! And by lucky coincidence, I colour matched them myself :) Hopefully [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine's pics will be excellent and you can see how good they looked for yourselves. You won't see any pics of [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine, but I can tell you he looked good himself in black kilt and shirt.)

There was yet more dessert after we'd finished laughing our socks off to the recording, in the form of [livejournal.com profile] kelemvor's spice cake. He also made the soda bread we had with the main meal. Mmmmm! My compliments to the chef! Sadly, I was too full after that to indulge in the fudge that [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine had brought. And there was tea, which made me a happy Mitchy :)

We started listening to some Bob Newhart (I think? Someone?) recordings after the cake but it wasn't too long before those of us that had to travel back home needed to make a move. So we said our goodbyes and wended our way home. The weather had long since vastly improved, and I was able to once again do the drive home in around 40 mins.

It was a good day so thank you to my hosts [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch and [livejournal.com profile] silenttex and to everyone else for being such genial company :)

Now excuse me while I waddle off to let the food sink!
