Now it's well known I'm completely hopeless when it comes to doors and keys. I have locked myself out on numerous occasions, I've lost my car keys at least once (necessitating new locks on the car - not cheap) and it's generally known amongst my friends that if they want a key looking after to give it to someone else.

But this morning beat them all six ways to Sunday.

I blundered out of bed about 7.30am in dire need of the loo so I did my usual zombie scamper across the hall to the bathroom. *Thwump* "Ow!" I glare at the bathroom door which has just refused to open. Blearily I peer down and think to myself "That'll be the hairdryer cable jamming it." *tug yank shift* I try again. Door doesn't budge. Door, in fact, behaves exactly as it would do as if it were locked from the inside....

I blink. For one panicked second I think I have a burglar trapped in the bathroom but a quick look round assures me that he/she would have had to have teleported in. My bladder, by this time, is announcing that I have to go the bathroom right now! Cursing furiously and doing the crossed legged dance, I find two screwdrivers and attack the door in desperation. It's very difficult to concentrate when you're hopping up and down in agony of need.

I give up. I scramble into some clothes and I dash round to a neighbour whom I know is up at this hour. I beg for use of the bathroom and the saintly neighbour says of course.

Restored, I approached the bathroom door with a maleveolent glint in my eye. Thirty seconds of controlled violence later and it was open. Yes, it was locked, the catch in the handle of the door was turned to the locked position. I looked at it in disbelief. You appreciate that one has to UNLOCK the door to get OUT of the bathroom. So how the fuck I managed to lock it in passing is TOTALLY beyond me. I can only assume that I didn't quite turn it into the unlocked position and it slipped back when I shut the door behind me. But I have to tell you, it's not that sort of lock and, frankly, if it was that easy to do, I would have thought I'd have done it long ago and not now, NINE YEARS after moving in :P

Occasionally I stump even me.

I would talk about work but I won't. It was too long, boring and knackering. The only thing that kept me going was the thought of the double pay I was earning. There were one or two incidents of interest and I may recount them another time.

I need tea :P
