Today has been one of those quietly Good Days. Scampering over to
thalinoviel's house this morning, I remembered to post a parcel to a friend which I'm hoping he'll get tomorrow :) I then had moments of immense consternation/amusement at the petrol station when my car's immobiliser alarm went off for no reason I was able to discern. At least I now know how to turn the damn thing off!
Arrived at
thalinoviel's house only slightly late and whisked the dear girl to the cinema, where we stocked up on munchies and proceeded to thoroughly enjoy "I,Robot". An excellent little film - nothing startlingly original, you understand, but what it does, it does very well. I enjoyed it immensely, I can see that being a firm DVD favourite. And besides, I like Will Smith. :D
We then repaired to Burger King for much needed food and there was much giggling. This is a public forum so I will not reveal the exact nature of the conversation but suffice to say I will never again be able to look at an equation or hear the phrase "entrance exam" without snickering. *snickers*
Waterstones was then raided where I happily indulged in their current offer of "3 for the price of 2" and bought "I, Robot" (Asimov's original), "Rubicon" which is about the fall of the Roman Empire and a mystery novel the title of which I'm blanking on but the blurb was interesting. And it had a shiny black cover :P
thalinoviel contented herself with buying only one book, which she blames me for. Showing me the book, "Dead Before Dark" by Charlaine Harris, muttering about it probably being rubbish, she was mildly surprised when I enthusiastically sang its praises. It is the first in an excellent series of vampire books, which I enjoy far more than Laurel K. Hamilton's bodice rippers. Though to be fair, Harris puts a fair bit of sex in her books too. Anyway, that sealed the book's fate, so it's all my fault, apparently :)
I dropped Thal back at her house and then headed home before the worst of the rush hour traffic could hit. Since I got back, I've had a leisurely bath and read most of the book that my friend Rik mailed to me. 's a Swords and Sorcery book by the guy that apparently invented the genre, Fritz Leiber. Pretty good, I'm liking it so far.
So it's been a Good Day. And now it's time for food and some mindless TV before bed :)
