I was a bit nervous about coming into work today, expecting to get a load of grief from Manager Blokey but yay! He's out all day at a meeting. *sniggers* Pity it's not all week but that's too much to hope for.

Typed up my letter of resignation, informed Kate the Auditor (who was really sweet and concerned that I've not got anything to go to) and that's that. My leavers form has been sent already - I was mildly amused to note that in the section asking "Would you re-employ?" Manager Blokey has said "No". Aww, think I've hurt his feelings, bless 'im.....

And while I will miss various people, and while I'm nervous about just walking away, the one abiding feeling I have is still of total relief.

Agencys were very positive but they always are when you first see 'em. I plan to harrass them on a regular basis for work. Reed have already submitted my CV for a job that's not dissimilar to this one but, as far as I can tell, it's not shop retail but business retail, so probably Mon-Friday with regular hours. I hope. Sounds a good job and it will pay slightly more than this one so I hope I at least get an interview because that would be very encouraging :)

*yawns* Dead quiet day. I had all my major chores done by 10.30am. There's only 2 sales weasels in....I do hope they don't plan to leave one sales weasel all on his own this evening. Mind you, I'm up for the overtime if they agree it but I want it authorised. It's not as if I'll still be with the company to kick up a fuss if I don't get the extra pay.

Earlier I saw the most amazing 1500m final I've seen since the Seb Coe/Steve Ovett glory years of the early eighties. Hicham El Guerrouj has been a giant of the distance for some years but he's never won an Olympic gold. I remember thinking he was a shoe in for the Gold in Sydney. When I saw he'd lost, I was gobsmacked. So I, along with the entire BBC commentary team judging by their hysteria, was really rooting for him this time around.

My god, what a race.

He led from just after the end of the first lap and he pushed the race to the very limits. He got faster and faster and stretched 'em out longer and longer. One guy stayed with him *goes to check name* Bernard Lagat and they were shoulder to shoulder coming into final home straight. Then Lagat got his nose in front but Guerrouj pushed and pushed and clawed back and OHMYGOD! He's won! He's won!!! WOO HOOO!!!

So Hicham El Guerrouj is my hero for the day. Kudos to him and congratulations.

I've done it!
