mitchy: (evil and cruel)

So my cat likes cheese. Nothing new or terribly unusual about that, he's always been partial to a crumb or two. However, he was calm about it; he wouldn't stalk me for it if I was eating it nearby or yowl piteously to be fed the stuff. However, I've found something that really does drive him wild: stringy cheese.

Oh you know the stuff: plastic cheese that comes in long tube shapes, designed to be peeled off in stringy bits and chomped. It's aimed at the kiddy market but because it's food you can play with, it's always appealed to me. So there I was the other day, curled up on the sofa, cheerfully peeling off cheesy strips and chomping when I'm aware that my cat's stare is boring into the side of my skull.

I look over at him. He's rivetted to the cheese strings I'm demolishing. Blinking, I hold out a tiny sliver for him and *WHOOOMF* it's gone, inhaled like a spaghetti strand. This is, mark you, a cat that's never quite got the hang of taking bits of food from the hand. His usual method is to nibble it or rub his head on your hand and hope that you drop the food so he can scoff it.

Not this time. This time he bit into the cheese, dragged it out of my hand and devoured his prey. Then went back to staring hopefully at me. He NEVER does this! He just doesn't beg for any food except his own! I fed him some more, not too much because I'm sure it can't be good for kitty cats. Finally the cheese was all gone and do you know what? He kept sniffing around hopefully, refusing to believe there wasn't any left!

*blinks*

Do they put a chemical relative of cat nip in this stuff or something?!
