1. Without A Trace - Agent Samantha Spade
We'll blip over the whole "They called her what??" thing and just focus on the fact that this is a terrific character, and well played by Poppy Montgomery. Sam is smart, sarcastic and gets her share of angst and action. And because WaT actually lets characters develop and spends time dealing with the aftermath of situations, rather than pressing the reset button with the next episode, we've been able to watch Sam grow over the course of three seasons. She's great :)

2. The West Wing (first 4 seasons only) - Sam Seaborn
Sam, Sam, the show was not the same without you! Come back! No, second thoughts, you're better off out of the mess that is post-S4 West Wing. But I miss you! You were naive at times, incredibly bright at others and the show's moral centre, not to mention a terrific foil for Toby. And who do they replace you with? That wimp, Will Bailey! Bah!!

6. Buffy (first 4 seasons only) - Faith
I am deeply cross that Faith wasn't given her own series. Damn, she was a great character! Plus she got to torture Wesley (on Angel), which is a massive bonus. :D

7. Law and Order: SVU - Olivia Benson
The writing has been a bit patchy in terms of consistency but what the writers have done now is give Olivia an even angstier background (some of which kind of contradicts the pilot show but never mind) so that Mariska Hargitay can chew the scenery and win the Emmy. Which is what happened this year. But she was always my favourite out of the two main characters, she's tough but not afraid to be soft, she's smart but prone to blind spots. I just like her :)

9. Mutant X - Brennan!!
No deep reasons here - he's just a hunk! *drooools*
