Phew, busy day today.

Rik and Carol were in London this week for a website awards thingy last night (they were runners up, but were quite pleased because the winners were better for the cause) and so we arranged to meet for lunch. Carol suggested the Cafe Libre, opposite Liberty's off Regent Street so I duly scampered in that direction. I was delayed a bit because the usual express train was hideously late so I caught a different and slower southbound train, but it was all good.

Now, given how much a travelcard costs these days, I was determined to make the most of the day, so plotted with [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel to meet her later that afternoon/evening at the Captain's Cabin. Knowing that we'd be eating that evening, I duly tried to have a light lunch.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yeh. I had the hummus to start, which was served with extremely yummy flat bread instead of pitta, and then selected a sandwich, thinking it would be smaller and lighter fare. Wrong-o. It was feckin' large, this sarnie and I was totally stuffed! Memo to self: "Club" means three layers of bread. Gnnng. Add in the pot of tea, bottle of water and filter coffee I had to drink, I didn't walk to the Cabin so much as waddle.

Anyway, I did waddle down to Piccadilly where I eventually found the Cabin again after a brief wander (I'd followed someone else there last time and was working off fuzzy memories). Regrettably I chose to navigate from the monster HMV store at Piccadilly, which naturally necessitated browsing around for a while so as not to get to the pub too early. Oh yes it did! :P I came out with three cds, which may sound a lot but considering I had six in my grubby little paws at one point, it was actually an exercise in willpower and restraint :)

I had a bit of a wait in the pub but that was ok, cos I had cider. Hee! [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel called me on her way there to find out what Krispy Kreme doughnut I wanted, as there is a stall near where she works. Foolishly, I ordered a chocolate coated kreme filled doughnut. More of this in a bit.

When [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel arrived there was happy gossiping. Alas, I was too full to contemplate serious food so [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel ate alone, but I have to say, I was impressed with the menu and I may actually take the group of friends there for food and booze in May. It's good food and pretty darn cheap too, for central London. Food consumed, there was more happy yakking and restrained cider drinking; restrained because I was full and [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel has, alas, work tomorrow.

Before we left, we agreed it was time for dessert so doughnuts were stealthily chomped. Dear. God. SUGARY BALLS OF CHOCOLATE KREMY DOOM!! I do not want to even face anything sweet for about a week now. Nor do I want to know what the Kreme filling is made of. Nuh-uh. Egads. And other exclamations.

Having recovered a little from the sugar shock, we duly left and headed to King's Cross, where we parted ways to wend our way home.

It was a good day. Yay for good friends, food and booze :)

Oh, and the CDs I bought were: G4, One Dog Night and Go West. Hee!
