Dear god, maybe it's just me, but last night's episode made me cringe.

Yes, you expect cheesy. Yes, it's not going to be Star Trek. But farting Cabbage Patch ET's? Oh puh-lease! And don't get me started on the whole "pigs in spaaaaaaaaaaaaace" thing. I nearly turned off at that point but hung on.

Last week, seeing the trailers, lithium_doll observed "So that's where the series budget went". Except it didn't. The Big Ben crash was done with models. Most of the aliens were old fashioned puppets and the only CGI used was to put them in corridors, from what I could tell. Cheap and nasty, not cheesy and tacky. Two totally different things.

It's a shame, because in some regards, the story was pretty interesting, at least the "Rose is back after 12 months, not 12 hours" bit, although I very quickly got tired of the mother and I suppose it's too much to hope for that she gets squished by one of the ET aliens. Everything else, well I'm sorry, but it sucked. It sucked really hard.

Maybe Ecclestone knew what he was doing, jumping ship after just one series. We can only hope this is the worst it gets.
