So the other weekend I was nattering to an online friend who works for an international subdivision of Barclays. Not the banking side of it, I think it's investments and stuff; I'll check it out later. Annnnyway, I was muttering about the lack of response I was getting to job applications and she mentioned her company was recruiting like crazy and that there were branches in London. I checked out the website but there were no admin vacancies available. "Send me your CV," says friend, "I'll pass it on. I know people in London and I do have some influence." Well I didn't think there was much chance but hey, any port in a storm and it was very nice of her to offer. So I sent it out.
Well the news is, there are no vacancies at the mo, but there's a project manager who's willing to meet me for an informal interview and, if she likes me, will put in a good word when something does come up. Obviously, this is all nebulous stuff and no good in the short term but who knows what the long term will bring? So I'm going into the City next Tuesday to meet Louise, see the office and have a coffee. And we'll see what happens.
Honestly, it's the most encouraging thing I've heard since the New Year, job wise. Meanwhile, looks like I may have to consider something drastic like working at McDonald's. There is another option too. Selling the car, buying something MUCH cheaper and using the surplus cash as a cushion to let possible job opportunities develop. But that's last ditch stuff.
I'll let you all know how it goes next Tuesday.
