Bloody weather! I scampered out of the flat this morning, raring to get myself over to Aunty Eve's and skidded to a halt when I realised it was sleeting. Ack. OK, sleet's not so bad, I think, I'll give it a whirl.

By the time I'd reached the A1(M)/M25 junction at South Mimms, the fields were turning white and visibility was horrific. :( The sky had that flat grey look that means the weather is in for the day too and I really wanted to risk it and go on but even if I got to Kent, I had no guarantee I'd be able to get back. The snow might turn to rain as the day went on, but it also might not. Argh!!

*kicks things*

So I phoned Aunty Eve from South Mimms services and she was on the phone. Had to leave a message and then I sadly turned round and came back home. Of course, since I've got indoors, the weather here has eased up but I don't know how it is further south and east. The BBC weather web page says "rain" but I can assure them it's still sleet here, even if it HAS lightened up considerably. I don't know what to do. And Aunty Eve is STILL on the frakkin' phone, so she doesn't know what's happening yet.

I wouldn't mind so much but this is the THIRD time I'll have had to bail on going to see her and I really do have this nagging sense of urgency that I should see her soon. But as she would be the first to tell me, that shouldn't mean I risk driving in appalling conditions. I must remember that it was much worse around South Mimms and may be bad in Kent too, although I would have expected Aunty Eve to ring me and tell me before 9am.

Maybe I can try again tomorrow. *hopeful* [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch and co, you're nearer Kent than I am, what's the weather like down there??

ETA: Spoken to Aunty Eve. We've agreed that it's too risky today, although the weather IS fine where she is and not too bad where I am, it's the bit in the middle that could be a problem. Definitely trying again tomorrow and come hell or high water/snow/hail/sleet, I'm going to get there! *nods determinedly*

I was browsing imdb the other night, amusing myself by looking up old TV shows I used to watch and seeing what the actors were doing now (if known). A memory of a tacky US show surfaced but all I could remember of it was that both my Mum and I had to stop watching after we learned the gorgeous actor playing one of the lead roles was killed in a freak accident on set during filming of the last episode. I couldn't remember the guy's name, the name of the show or any of his co-stars.

Well today, I decided to idly google "actors killed on set during filming" and I've spent the last 4 hours getting reading all sorts of trivia. First of all I found a list of accidents that have happened during filming. This lead me to a page of how famous people have died unusual deaths (not gruesomely described, I'm happy to say). This, in turn, led me to looking for information on Edward Despard, who was executed in 1803 for the attempted assassination of George III (he holds the dubious distinction of being the last man to be hung, drawn and quartered, which is why I looked him up as I had no idea that punishment was still on the books in the 19th century). This lead me to Last Words before Execution, Last Letters and then Famous Last Words. And on the last page, I found the actor and the show I originally started looking for! Hee!!! (It was Jon-Erik Hexum and the show was called Cover Up).

I know it's all a bit macabre, but it's trivia! I love trivia! And the way, on the internet, finding one thing leads to another and then another and then back again :) I'm now reading "Little Known Lasts"" :)

Ah loves the Internet :)
