Last week was The Week of the Cardboard Box (and stay tuned, because we're having a re-match on Thursday). This week has been the Week of the Envelope.

To be specific, over 800 of the little blighters, as we got busy shipping out the indicative budgets for 2007/08. Two copies for every school in Hertfordshire (that's all the LEA nurseries, infant/junior schools, middle schools, secondary schools and special schools). One for the Chair of Governors, one for the Headteachers. Me, I'd send one to the HT and tell the buggers to make copies for their Governors but maybe it's a legal requirement or something. Anyway, one fat budget and one three page letter had to be stuffed into pre-labelled envelopes, so much care was required to keep documents in order and make sure the wrong number wasn't stuffed in the wrong envelope. It would be a bit embarrassing for a school to get copies of someone else's budget :P

Dear gods. We finally finished the buggers today. Our efforts were greatly hampered by today's strike action, as the print room was closed. Thus we had to photocopy a large swathe of the documents ourselves. Luckily, the letters had all been pre-printed in vast quantities, but that couldn't be done for the budgets because they had to be prepared in stages and the masters produced in batches. Gagh.

Plus, all the envelopes are going out by school courier, so now that they're all stuffed, we have to re-sort them into the appropriate courier area (South, North, East, West). Most of this has been done but the stuff we were scrambling to do today is a bit more, well, scrambled. :) There are reasons for this but I can't be arsed to explain. It bores me, so I can only imagine what it'd do for you :)

Beanpole organises this every year and she retires on Friday. The thought of the office having to do it without her is really frightening to contemplate. *shudders*

Talking of Beanpole, I must publicly thank the lovely [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel in advance for her help. We wanted some Maths themed stuff (Beanpole was a Maths teacher for twenty years or more) to decorate her desk on Friday and [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel is getting three of her classes to make models of nets - that's when you make a 2d model of something and it gets folded up into a 3-d model, like a cross being folded into a cube :) Perfect for making mobiles with, methinks! Yay for [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel! (I hasten to add she was planning to do this anyway, but is making the models available to me. What timing :) )

And now football and food - ahhh *sighs happily*
