This is pinned by my desk at work, a former colleague passed it round a couple of years ago. It being the New Year and the time of resolutions and resolve, I think I should share. Enjoy.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
   and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
   be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
   and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant;
   they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
   they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
   you may become vain and bitter; for always
   there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
   it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
   for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
   many persons strive for high ideals;
   and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
   for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
   it is perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
   gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
   no less than the trees and the stars;
   you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
   no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
   whatever you conceive Him to be,
   and whatever your labors and aspirations,
   in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
   it is still a beautiful world.
Be careful. Strive to be happy.

I have a zero birthday coming up, the big 4 zero to be precise. I'm mentioning it now because I fully plan to spend the rest of my life in total denial of my age.

My present to me is going to be a new camera, which I have money carefully hoarded towards, mostly from Aunty Eve, bless her :) I may not be able to get it in February but so long as I get it before the holiday I have tentatively planned in Sept/Oct, I'll be happy.

Which brings me to this. I have my heart set on going to see this. I love the musical, I saw the Original Cast production about 3 weeks after the show opened, I was that keen :) This anniversary show is going to feature Idina Menzel whom I adore and having discovered her too late to see her in the London production of Wicked, this would be a great chance to catch her in a show. God only knows when she'll come back to the UK again, although there's a very small chance she might tour some day.

Long story short, if any of you were planning to get me a birthday present this year, it would be great if you could somehow club together and get me a ticket to the show or chip in to the cost. Tickets are selling now and I just don't have the money to do it, otherwise I'd get this instead of the camera. I'm not sure how you'd go about it, and I won't fret if it doesn't happen, but if any of you are interested, perhaps you could comment here and touch base? I would be a deliriously happy Mitchy if such a wonder came to pass ;)

*snugs you all* Thanks folks. I won't make a habit of this, I promise. After this birthday, denial kicks in and the other zero birthdays won't even be noted :P
