A while back, I signed up with the talent pool at work: basically you submit your CV and they hold it in a databank and if any jobs come up that match your criteria, they give you a heads up. An email came round late last night for a 6 month contract with another department, doing more admin-related stuff than I'm doing now, and based in Welwyn Garden City. (I can walk to it in about 5 minutes. If I'm slow.) I slept on it and first thing thing this morning, fired off a couple of emails, one to the HR lady asking if it could be done as a secondment, and one to a friend in the department, asking what she knew about it. Friend was very enthused, job sounds very hectic but in a productive way and I fancy the work, to be honest. I'm so fed up of being bored! HR came up trumps, they talked the manager (not my friend, but her boss) and he agreed that the job could be a secondment!
Eee!
So I took the leap, spoke to Foghorn, who was very supportive, and filled out the relevant forms which Foghorn will complete and send tomorrow :) And then we'll see if they want me.
*bites nails*
As to when it would start, if I got it, I have no idea. It's interesting - if it started in the next couple of months, I'd be out of the office for the reorganisation and I believe that they wouldn't be able to touch my post while I was on secondment. The rules state I have to be able to come back if I want to *eg* Of course, nothing to stop them reorganising me after I got back but that would take a little time. And if I didn't want to go back, well I'd have had six months in a different environment and a chance to expand the ol' CV, which would help in getting that elusive job in another area. We'll see how it shakes out :) Lots of unknowns yet, least of all if they want me or not. Knowing someone in the department already helps a lot :D
In case this doesn't pan out, I gave Foghorn the heads up that I was considering the voluntary redundancy or asking for reduced hours, just to shake things up a bit. She understood entirely so I think she'll be supportive if I end up going that route too, which is good to know.
Sooo, stay tuned, the game is afoot!
