Had a fantastic lunch today with John and Carol. Instead of going to The Bull in Wheathampstead like we usually do, I suggested we go to The Red Lion in Welwyn for a change. I took
halcyon_shift and
doccy there last year and we had a fantastic meal.
The Red Lion didn't disappoint me this time either. It's always a good sign when you wail that you can't choose, there's too many good options :D We all had the crab and crawfish pot (served with warm fresh bread) to start with and it was very tasty. Then I had the 18hr slow cooked salt beef hash - oh gods it was good! - while John demolished a margarita pizza and Carol did justice to the beef and ale pie. We were sure we could manage dessert but then discovered they do a mini-dessert option with coffee or tea so we all did that: John and I sampled the treacle tart, which was heavenly, and Carol had the pear creme brulee. And in between the omming and nomming was lots of happy yakking as we caught up on life since we last met.
Really do recommend the Red Lion if you're in the neighbourhood. It's now firmly on my list of Places to Take Hungry Visitors :)
