*headdesk* (and a question for [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch)

I r so smart. I appear to have thrown out my English language copy of the instructions for my camera. *eyes lounge* Unless it's lurking somewhere obscure, I shall hunt again in a minute. *shakes head* Such a dim mousey!

In the meantime, [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch and any other camera savvy person - what am I doing wrong? I take 8 pics with my shiny new camera and the memory card says it's full! 8 pics take up 16mb of memory? They appear to be huge pics. Should I have upgraded to a better memory card or is there a setting or two I can tweak or something I should/should not be doing?

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice :)

You want a bigger memory card. 16Mb is really almost nothing on a modern camera...

A megapixel and a megabyte are approximately the same measure of information. They are both about as big as an image the size of your computer desktop. Most modern cameras have 5 megapixels or so, so the 16MB card or internal memory is just for show. You're expected to shell out more moolah for a decent memory card.

I've got a 1GB in my 8 megapixel camera, and a 500MB in my 5 megapixel camera. The camera before that, I only had 128 MB, but I also bought a portable hard drive/card reader to take on long trips, or to hula festivals and canoe blessings.

1. Switch camera on. Turn to SCN setting.
2. Scroll through the functions until you get to the size selection. It should say L M1 M2 S. You can scroll through which size you want for your photos.
3. Buy a bigger card!

I have a 1gb card and my photos are set to the largest size. S just bought me a 2gb card, so I can get even more on there!

As far as the instructions go, have you tried the mfr's website? You should be able to download 'em there.

Take yourself over to www.7dayshop.com. In the boxes at the top of the page, select Flash Memory -> Secure Digital -> All manufacturers and click search. Their own brand 2Gb card is £4.50. Most of the 2Gb brand name ones are under £6. The more expensive cards have quicker transfer rates, but TBH they won't make that much difference.
