Medical TMI

Bah. So, I have an ongoing bowel problem that has a long name that I can NEVER remember but it's something akin to IBS and all it usually means is that now and again, my bowels have a minor temper tantrum and I have to be nice to them and take Senekot or the opposite, depending on the flare up. This has worked well for years and I've not had to bother the docs for drugs.

Not now. Now I'm in week 3 of a flare up that's left me miserable and in need of frequent "Oh 'eck, gotta get to the bathroom" type sprints. I was off work yesterday because this, coupled with period pain, left me a small snarling ball of malcontent. Work was definitely better off without me, and I was much better off curled up on the sofa with a hot water bottle. But this morning I realised that to be fair to work and myself, I needed to either go in to work and suffer or go see the doc and then take the day off. Plus which, I'd like to be a LOT better before the 3 day NYC jaunt because 8 hours on a plane in my current condition isn't, umm, ideal, shall we say :P

So now I have tablets. Brother, do I ever have tablets. 40 of 'em, to be taken in batches of 8 o_0 Five day course. Hah, see how you like THAT, bowels! *dumps 8 tonnes of steroids on 'em* *shakes fist*

Work are being understanding so that's good. And hopefully I'll be able to contemplate sitting and learning financial software for two days by tomorrow :)

And now I must re-book my passport appointment because I forgot I had the training course Thursday and I don't really want to cancel it. The next one probably won't be until late September which will be annoying.

*slithers off to find tea, toast, hot water bottle and the relevant phone numbers*

Prepare to feel jittery on those pills. If you feel like you are in a thousand places all at one whilst standing still, it's them. I felt horribly hungry all the time too. I got the housework done in triple time though!

Well so far all they've done is send me to sleep for 3 hours :D And if it gets me through the mind-numbing course I'm on for the next two days, bonus!

Hee! One good thing - my asthma is going to be so well behaved for weeks after this lot :D

Actually, never been on it myself. However, I have friends w/ crohn's disease and/or ulcerative colitis. Prednisone is the first line of treatment for almost any flare up of autoimmune diseases.
