My only contribution would be that if you keep having this problem, you'll need to check the integrity of your hard disk. I had this prob a couple of years ago and it turned out that either my drive had a bad sector or a root kit had damaged a sector and I had to get a new hard drive because every time the computer started writing files to that sector, it would get unstable. Fingers crossed for you.
