Today was a good day *happy beam*

It was the Office Christmas do. We had a table booked at a local pub/restaurant called The Salisbury and come lunchtime, we all trooped down there. Very nice place, well decorated and it felt very Christmassy! The office had a Secret Santa thing going this year - you drew a name out of a hat and had to get them a gift costing no more than a tenner. I won't say what I bought for my person, but my Secret Santa did me proud! I got a bottle of cider (good cider!) with a small bag of chocs attached, and the World's Largest Tea Cup and Saucer. I kid you not, this thing is huge! I measured it when we got back to the office - the diameter at the top of the cup is 9.5cm and the saucer is 12 cms wide!! Glee!!!

There was Christmas crackers, party poppers and there was food! I had smoked haddock to start (very nice!), with roast beef, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips for the main course, and a slab of Christmas Yule Log with a scoop of ice cream for dessert. There was coffee for afters and I had 2 halves of cider during the meal. It was all very pleasant :)

After the meal, Beanpole got hold of a list of puzzles that BossMan had produced for a charity event some time ago. I know these puzzles have a special name, but I can't remember it. Basically, you get given a number and then the initial letters of a phrase associated with the number. So, for example:-

12 S of the Z

The easy answer to which is "12 Signs of the Zodiac". We spent a happy hour wading through this list, with Bossman providing hints here and there when we got stuck. Was lots of fun.

Headed back to the office around 3.30 or so, I think. I know I did bugger all when I got back, beyond wading through the 21 messages left on the answer phone :P Then I made tea in my new cup - found out it came with 3 Twinnings Traditional Tea teabags and 2 choccy shortbread biscuits, hurrah! - and spent half an hour drinking it. Dear gods, it holds a lot of liquid!! It's probably equal to three of my normal mugs! 's great!

So I'm a happy Mitchy tonight, though fat, full and sleepy. Early night for meeee!

Wow, sounds like your Secret Santa *really* knows you well! *g*

Tonight we had our cocktail thingie with the Bored - er, Board; you know, that token once a year when they make themselves known to the Masses. I swear there were a few of them I'd never seen before! Next week is our proper staff Christmas thingie, with real food and decent wine... *grumbles*

So your Bossman's a mason then?

Those little puzzles are one of the ways in which Masonic holy books and secret writings are encoded. A friend of mine found out his father had been quite a senior mason when he died and he inherited all his father's Masonic gear - he was quite amused by the idea this was meant to be a secure code that, for example, a woman wouldn't crack if she accidentally found the book.
