Yes I read that. I'm actually quite pleased it's ending this way (although I will miss it, especially since it got great again in season 6). It's a logical end to the show and it means (assuming that you don't already know specifically how the series will end and if you do don't let me know because I really don't want to know) that the election will be wide open. Had the show been continuing for an 8th season it would have had to be Jimmy Smits that won because otherwise they'd have had to sack the entire cast, this way it can be either of them.
I think had the tried to continue it it would have started to drag. Better to end while you're still good. But still, all that said, it is a shame it can't continue for ever. It's one of the greatest TV shows ever made, without question. I shall miss them. :o(
