Dr Who - Honking Big Spoilers

So Rose has finally gone, sealed away forever in another universe, along with Mickey, her mother and her alternate universe dad.

Thank gawd for that!

Maybe next season they'll leave the whiny love angst alone and, y'know, write better stories. I live in hope.

As wrap ups go, this one chugged along nicely enough. RTD must have had an orgasm when he realised he could finally have a million Daleks and a million Cybermen blowing each other up, on screen. Well ok, not exactly a million but more than one or two. Plenty of flash bang whizz for everyone to go "ooooh" over, enough angst to flood a continent or two, one or two neat twists, like the Dalek Boss sneaking off somewhere before being sucked back through the vortex.

Personally, I think if RTD really wanted to go for an emotional ending, he could have killed Rose off and done it properly, but he does love his "happy" endings, so Rose gets to spend the rest of her life with her Mum and Dad and Mickey in their other universe. At least it'll give the fanfics material for years! I've never liked Rose so I'm just glad to see the back of her and her bloody mother. I'll miss Mickey more than Rose!

I do have one major quibble with the episode. OK, so, all the Cybermen and the Daleks are reeking in void stuff so they'll get sucked into the void. What about the Cybermen who were created on the planet after the invasion? They never went through the void so wouldn't they have all been left behind? I wonder if that means we'll see what's-'er-name, the woman who became Crying Cyberman "I did my duty for Queen and Country!" again? I was going to quibble about her being able to maintain some memories and emotions, but as [livejournal.com profile] kelemvor pointed out, it could well be because of the psychic training the Torchwood employees receive, mentioned in the first episode. And it was a cool scene *nodsnods*

Did anyone else think the collateral damage of five million Cybermen and Daleks being sucked back into the void from all over the world would be horrific? Although I do note it looked more like the Cyberbeasties vanished rather than being unceremoniously yanked through the air unlike the Daleks. Still, bet there are some interesting Dalek-shaped holes in some of the taller buildings in that London :)

Overall, I enjoyed the two parter, it never dragged as so many of the episodes this season have done. Rose has gone, it's a blank slate next time around, well see what they do. This season had its high points but it's been bloody uneven and even plodding in places. Although possibly it was worth it entirely just for the line "We even manage to have a bit of a sex life...".

Roll on Christmas :) "Am I bovvered?"

What I want to know is, what about poor Jake? First of all, his boyfriend gets killed, and then he gets lumbered with an alternative universe one. After coming to terms with that, his new bloke's ex-girlfriend gets dumped in his universe and he gets the elbow again. Poor love...

Catherine Tate versus Ten. Oy vey!

Ah just think of the happy lil' slash fiction writers. They have enough material now to write angst until their keyboards turn soggy :)

I'm also slightly curious why the Tardis didn't get sucked into the void either, as it had been hopping between dimensions too.

I thought about that, but then I remembered that the last time we saw it, it was chained to a very secure trailer and being taken off somewhere, presumably to another dungeon secure lab. So maybe that's the justification for it not being in danger. :)

God I hope so. There's been a couple of good episodes this season but most of themhave either been disappointing or just plain shit. David Tennant is so much better than this.
