I'm just a meme ho this week, it seems :) Stolen with cunning and a mug of tea from [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch

When I was little, I wanted to be a...I can't remember anything specific from when I was a wee kiddywink but from the age of 9 or so I wanted to be an engineer. Then I found out Maths was necessary and kind of lost that dream.

At University/College I studied... English Studies - Literature with a core element of Critical Theory. It was pretty interesting, overall *nods* If it would help my career in any way, I'd do a Masters degree just for the sheer love of the subject.

My first real job was as a...Typist/filing clerk for a double glazing firm. The company no longer exists but I found out the building is still standing. *giggles* To show you how long ago this was, my annual salary was about £4500 and that was considered a decent-ish wage at the time o_0

I am currently working as a... Temporary Admin Assistant at Herts County Council, working for the School Funding Team. It's a good job but unless something develops around Christmas and I can apply for it permanently, it's not ideal. Salary sucks. Mind you, it will be improved when I'm not paying too much Income Tax and get the rebate from the tight fisted IR gits :P

I am happy/hideously disappointed with my career choice. I'm more resigned that disappointed. I don't have a strong vocation for a particular job nor do I have any particular skills, beyond being an Admin ninja. It's not the best paid work, however, and while I'm all for job satisfaction, I'm the only person in my household who can pay the bills.

I would secretly like to be a...Technical IT wizard (hampered there by not being very good at it :)). Pondering going back to one of my later childhood wishes of being a librarian.

I haven't been paying attention to the news this week. I completely missed the announcement that Michael Piller, former executive producer of the Star Trek franchise, had died, aged 57. His work on Next Generation made it the show it was and his absence from the franchise when he quit was sorely missed (Enterprise would have been a much better show if he'd been on it, let me tell you). You can read about his life and work in this announcement here.
