First the non-spoiler review:
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
*bounce bounce bounce bounce*
Matt Damon is a Tiny God and I want to be like Pamela Landy when I grow up.
SQUEEEEE!!
*cough* OK, enough of that. First of all, this movie is better than the second and as good as the first, IMNSHO. I do wish Paul Greengrass would just stop with the Dizzy!Cam effects already, or at least tone 'em down a bit, but that is actually a minor gripe. That apart, the film rackets along at a fantastic clip, barely leaving you time to gasp for breath.
The premise is that Bourne is a smidge pissed off and is determined to track down the people who did this to him. He finds two unexpected allies, Pamela Landy and Nicki, and the locations zoom from London to Tangier to New York at a head spinning pace. All the while Bourne's getting closer to his goal, Landy is frustrated by those in power with the most to lose (great turns from Daniel Staithern and Scott Glen) from the exposure of the programme that created Bourne and took over from Treadstone - BlackBriar.
Damon is Bourne now, and his performance is as good as the previous two movies. The supporting cast is uniformly excellent, and it's great to see Nicki has a cool role, and indeed, is now a plot hook of her own if they ever decide to do a fourth movie.
My second favourite bit was the beautiful twist at the start of the third act which turns out to be the END of Supremacy, with Damon on the phone to Landy and being given some information. There may have been happy Mitchy squeaking at this bit, as I just love it when things tie in that beautifully. My favourite bit was right at the end, when the news that Bourne's body hasn't been found is broadcast and the listening Nicki just smiles a very knowing smile. I loved it because I was smiling too and I'd swear most of the people in the cinema had the exact same happy grin.
Neither actor or director have totally nixed the idea of a fourth movie somewhere down the line. I'm ambivalent about whether I want one or not. On the one hand, this was the perfect note on which to end the trilogy, I mean, perfect note. On the other, I'm a greedy mousey and I want more Bourne, dammnit!
Go see this movie. Now. Today. Why are you still sitting reading this? Shoo! :)
Janey and I had a lovely evening and both came out of the cinema grinning like loons. We luvs the Bourne, we does ;) We celebrated by scoffing McDonalds goodies - hey! You get a free coke cola glass with ever large meal! Hee! *petses her new glass* The only minor annoyance was I managed to really bang/scrape my shoulder on a metal bracket thing that was on the pillar next to my seat and it hurts. *whines* I wouldn't mind so much if I had a spectacular bruise to show for it but I don't! *pouts* So mean!
In other news, work is bimbling along and the boredom issues has been cured by my discovering several books on Project Gutenberg that have been sneaked onto a cd for my reading pleasure. I'd forgotten how much fun Sherlock Holmes stories were :D Come, Watson! The game's afoot!
