Jesus, Mitch, you have some crap on that lot -- says the woman who knows a fair proportion of them ;)

1 is Seasons In The Sun, Terry Jacks; 2 is Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney; 3 is Car 67, but I don't know the artist; 6 is Voulez Vous by Abba; 8 is You Take Me Up by the Thompson Twins; 11 is Matchstalk Men And Matchstalk Cats And Dogs by Brian and Michael; 13 is The Winner Takes It All by Abba again; 14 is I Know Him So Well by Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson; 15 is Nineteen by Paul Hardcastle; 16 is The Sun Always Shines On TV by A-Ha. I'm certain I know 17 and 18 but can't bring them to mind right now...

Crap? CRAP?! I resent that remark :)

So by "fair proportion" you mean "nearly all" right? :P You are completely correct and now I wanna know how you know Car 67 :)

Sadly I am a child of the 70s and 80s when it comes to music... and the 70s, in particular, was hardly a golden era.... ;)

Ah, memories. I had a bloke try to chat me up by telling me Seasons In The Sun was his favourite song, once. "Try" being the operative word.

I assume I heard Car 67 on the radio in my youth. "Is there anything else you want me to do... you know I'm only here to please you..." Doesn't sound like any minicab driver _I've_ ever encountered.

I have a very good memory for song lyrics. If I could get that chunk of brain back to use for something more useful...

This is because he's not talking to the customer but to the controller :) The song was interspersed with comments from aforementioned controller. The band name (I think it was just one guy, officially) was Driver 67. This was their only hit.

Oh yes, I knew he was talking to the controller, but I haven't heard drivers talking to their controllers like that either ;)
