Talking of politics...

This is the sort of thing I would like politicians to grow a pair and do something about. This article is about an incident in the US but don't think it doesn't apply anywhere else. It does. It's beautifully written, please take a look.

Polticians, I don't know. If it's not important to us, why should it be important to them. I had a friend who used to be a public defender for juveniles, and got stabbed on the street for it. Eventually, he realized that if he wanted to help kids, he should help them before they get in trouble. He quit practicing law and became a teacher. Just the same, I'm fairly sure some of the kids who were in our class are in gangs now.

To them, the gangs are their family. Kids can be at risk for all kinds of nasty situations and behaviors, but what's the one most powerful factor to keep them out of it all? Having a relationship with an adult who is not a member of their immediate family. What can politicans do? Argue, talk, get their picture taken, spend money, or not spend it!
