...it must be time for a meme!
1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.
I haven't got the songs to upload so I've linked to vids where I can :)
With flawless logic,
halcyon_shift chose the letter Y.
1. YMCA by Village People
C'mon, this was a gimme :) If I've danced to this once, I've done it a hundred times. It was pretty much a staple of every school disco/wedding/family event when I was growing up. And it's a fun song :D
2. You Don't Bring Me Flowers - Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond
This? Is one of the best male/female duets ever. 'Nuff said.
3. You Give Up - T'Pau
Why they didn't release this as a single instead of the insipid "Valentine" I will never know. Much better follow up to China in Your Hand, would have given 'em a decent hit, IMNSHO. But nobody listens to me *sniffles* This song, on the other hand, kicks arse and takes names. Sadly no video of it anywhere. ETA: Squee!
halcyon_shift found a clip! *pogos around the room*
4. Yellow Submarine - The Beatles
It took me years to realise this was a Beatles song. But seriously, how can you believe it's a Beatles song when you've spent most of your young life singing it at school for fun or a production or whatever? Surreal in more ways than one.
5. You'll Never Walk Alone - from the musical "Carousel" (covered by too many to list, vid links to movie version)
I'm not a Liverpool fan and I tear up when this gets sung on the terraces. Beautiful song which (I think) completely outshines the musical it comes from. Seriously, I have no desire to ever re-watch "Carousel" but I'll listen to this quite happily, whoever is singing it.

Wahine Ilikea, one of my favorite songs about a light skinned woman on Molokai, performed by the songwriter and his son, in a cafegynnatorium, with hula. The audience is yelling "Hana hou!" Which means "Do it again!"
More to come
