I had to force myself back into the real world today, which came hard after nearly four and a half days off. Alas, I have my SAP (HCC financial package) training course today and tomorrow and didn't want to cancel it as I'm not sure how long it'd take to get on another one. On the plus side, it's not work, and it'll be moderately useful stuff to know. And hey, I get a full day's pay for a 9.30 to 4.30 course. I can live with that :D

The course was being held at one of HCC's random properties near Hatfield. Most of these are being sold off, gradually, and being run down. This site is one of them, so most of the buildings are empty and it's also bereft of a canteen and snack machines. Fortunately, they do provide you with tea/coffee and water (I think H&S would sue them if we didn't have access to water) but you have to take your own sarnies in, which is no great hardship as that's what I do every day anyway.

Being mostly closed down, the place was a little like Marie Celeste and being as how I hadn't been at work for 2 days, I'd had no chance to double check which building I was supposed to be in. I guessed, however, that "The Training Centre" was highly likely and so I scurried across the various paths and open spaces between the car park and the buildings as directed by the helpful signs (Note to self: probably the best sign posted site I've been on recently, which makes a nice change). Sadly, I was so carefully following the signs that I wasn't paying much attention to my feet. Consequently, I failed to notice the spot where there was a 2 inch drop in the level between one giant concrete slab and the other until I stepped over it.....*sighs* Frantic flailing, anguished squeaking were to no avail as I failed at Keeping My Balance and promptly went ass over tea kettle, landing rather hard on my hands, left elbow and hip. Ow.

There was cursing for a minute, then I ascertained there was no blood anywhere, cautiously picked myself up and was even happier to note I hadn't twisted my ankle and then slowly retrieved my stuff which had distributed itself in a lovely semi-circle around the crash site. I was about 3 minutes later getting to the training and apologised to the trainer. She asked if I'd got lost and I admitted that I'd had a small mishap. She looked at my elbow and eeped - apparently there was damage I couldn't see - and promptly sent me off with another trainee, who knew where the ladies' loo was. Trainee was very helpful, she also knew her way around enough to get a first aider, because although there was no blood, as I could see when examining my elbow in the mirror, I had scraped it pretty badly and I'm going to have a lovely bruise. So a very nice lady came and did the necessary with anti-septic wipes and also filled out an accident report, which is fair enough, it's a dangerous bit of pathway and should be noted, even if the site is going to be vacated eventually.

I got back to the training room eventually and had to spend the rest of the day being gently asked to be careful and how was I doing :) It was all in good humour and genuine concern though - the bruise is rather spectacular, I admit. Anyway, the course was pretty interesting, the trainer's good and there's only 5 of us doing training, which makes it easy to get help from the trainer when needed. We finished at 3.45 and called it a day; I left to much good natured joshing about being careful tomorrow and not falling down any holes on my way in :)

I haven't looked at the bruise on my hip yet, but I suspect in the morning, I'm going to have some lovely aches where everything's stiffened up. I'm just glad I didn't land on the point of my elbow, but rather the side, else I'd have really known about it! Ah well! I crashed hard when I got home, because there was a lot to absorb in the training and it was tiring using the ol' mousey brain! I don't know if the steroids were having an effect too, but I think I'd have been pretty wiped anyway. I was supposed to go to the cinema tonight to see Abba the Movie but I've wimped out. My sofa, my DVDs and a good book are calling to me instead.

Talking of the steroids, I'm on Day 2. No major, major improvement but I do believe I've had far less need to scamper urgently to the bathroom today and no other side effects, other than possibly being slightly more dormouse like than normal, so that's a good sign :)

So, how was everyone else's day? :)

Umm, I'm going to warn you: that bruise is going to be more than spectacular. Prednisone does have a slight effect of thinning on the blood and can also affect how well blood is absorbed back into the tissue....and you just had a massive dose yesterday. So...might want to dig a long sleeve out.
