..I just took my garbage out to the external bins and then walked to the end of my road and back. Say a total distance of, umm, 1000 yards mebbe? Maybe 1500. *tries to guestimate it using American football pitches* I was planning to see if I could walk down to the shops (5 times that distance, easily). I stopped at the end of my road, noted that my legs felt like lead and I was puffing and slunk back to my flat.

Dear gods!

I know I was unfit BEFORE the op but seriously this is insane! So, daily walks, whatever the weather, whatever the distance, else I'm going to be going nowhere fast, literally!

It took me about 3 months to fully recover from my operation, IIRC. Admittedly I'd lost A LOT of weight (I dropped from about 10 stone to under 7) from being on NIL by Mouth for about 3 weeks, so I expect yours may go a bit quicker.

*nods* I know, I need to be patient. But I didn't realise how much stamina I'd lost being in hospital that long. It was a bit of a cold, harsh reality check :P

I was very surprised/dismayed to discover just how much you use your stomach muscles in just about everything without being aware of it, until of course, you can't anymore.

Healing takes time, my friend. Don't push yourself too hard.

I know, I'm trying to be patient. It's just frustrating that I can't just pop down to the shops when I want to or even get myself out of the flat and go and do something more interesting, y'know?

I remember when I was broken (ankle). It took forever to get healed and in small increments. It was very frustrating but eventually everything came back.
