Ack! Need techie help

OK, I've got Region 2 DVDs which should work just fine on my PC. But they're not playing. Neither Windows Media Player or RealPlayer show anything on the screen. VLC Media Player plays it but the picture keeps breaking up and the sound is ropey. I've had this problem before, thought I'd solved it by downloading a codec pack. Clearly not *sighs* I've got DVD43 installed and that's saying the DVD is good to go, all region killed and shit. So what can I do? I can only assume I'm missing a codec or something but how do I find out what I need?

And why VLC is being ropey with DVDs I don't know, it didn't use to be. Maybe I should try re-installing it? Hmm. *goes to try that*

DVD43 may be the problem. Try exiting DVD43. You don't need it for decoding Region 2 DVDs, and it sometimes causes problems by trying to work when it doesn't need to.

Half way through :) Making myself stop now and go to bed :P Just watched the ep where they have the bad mission in Iran and Mac and Crystal attempt what I'm sure is physically impossible in a Mustang :D
