So I've been watching two of the Joan Hickson Miss Marple TV dramas today - I love 'em so! - and it's given me a chance to try out the relatively new Alibi channel. During an ad break, they mentioned a competition, the main prize of which is a 10 day trip to Egypt with runners up prizes of a selection of Christie classics. "Oooh!" I said. "I fancy that!" So I duly toddled over to the website and noted I had to register to enter. No problem, I fill out the form, using my regular orien address...only to find it's already in use.
Umm. Okaaaaaaay.
I sent off a password reminder request and what I got back didn't resemble any password I've ever used. Not even close. But it let me log in and I checked the personal details and whaddya know, it's got my real name, my full address and the orien email addy.
Except I have NO MEMORY of ever registering on the site. As far as I know, I haven't even watched the Alibi channel before today. I have a theory. The website automagically resets your password to some generic randomly generated phrase when you use the "forgot password" feature, hence I wouldn't have received the password I logged in with. Makes sense, I'm ok with that so far. The other is that before it became a TV channel, the site existed to promote crime fiction or some such thing. I can imagine me stumbling across a site like that and registering before forgetting all about it.
I'm really curious now though as to when I registered :P And why!
*shakes head*
I knew the competition answer though (as will a zillion other people, it wasn't a challenge) so fingers crossed. :)
