I was ridiculously late into work today, through a combination of not sleeping well (or rather, sleeping well but not enough) and consequently managing to ignore my alarm until nearly quarter to 11. Oooops! Then when I did arrive at work it took me 20 minutes to find a parking place. Argle! I got to the office just in time to stop them sending out search parties for me, which was kinda sweet actually.
So this morning was pretty much a write off and I paid for being so sleepy in the afternoon with the beginnings of a headache. Beh. But tea, paracetamol and a couple of most interesting jobs made the afternoon whizz by. Before Christmas, the annual Consultation Document was sent out to all the schools and, for the first time, all the private nurseries. This is a booklet that outlines proposed changes to school funding and gets people to agree/disagree and write comments. It's my job every year to record all the replies - and brother, there's some wordy swine out there! However, it's pretty interesting stuff, even if you do want to bitch slap the whingers after a while. :D Now TooTall and FogHorn have to present the results this year's consultation results to the Schools Forum and I had to produce a couple of spreadsheets summarising the data. It was rather fun - I LIKE beating up spreadsheets like that. Really wish I got to do more of it but I don't really know how to go about that.
Also, I've been given a fantastic job by TooTall. The powers that be have decreed our electronic filing system should be standardised and have come up with a new directory structure. TooTall's showed me a draft and asked me to create a mock version and work out what directories our department needs and what sort of categories might need to be added, stuff like that. Hee! Should be oodles of fun.
First thing I did when I got home was watch "Leverage" - really excellent episode which made me a happy mousey by being not only excellent but Parker-centric. Major, major props to Beth Riesgraf for her work here; Parker was at times Insane!Parker and Human!Parker and she played them both convincingly and beautifully, with just the right amount of shading. I do love me some character development and (eee!) backstory! :) I naturally loved her character before but now she's really cemented Parker's place at the top of my "Fave characters" list. Hmm, wonder if I can persuade
halcyon_shift to write a Parker-centric fic? Maybe I can buy her at the next (and last *sniffle) Sweet Charity auction and make her my slave choose that as my fic :D
I processed a stack of invoices from FogHorn today and found a printout at the bottom of the pile that had obviously been scooped up by mistake. On reading it, I realised it was a draft version of a job description; specifically PartyGirl's old job which has been vacant since she left. If FogHorn's working on a draft, then it means they're getting ready to advertise it internally. I think TheTempWithNoName will almost certainly apply and (if she does) get it, but I also think I'd be very silly not to throw my hat in the ring. And even if I don't get it, TheTempWithNoName's position would be free, which I could do standing on my head. What nobody wants, judging from what StillWaters was telling me, is for nobody from within County to apply/get the post and it be advertised externally. Because then KnowItAll might apply for it and, more worryingly, might get it. Euuurgh. Oh, he's a nice enough guy but he can be eye-wateringly annoying. I wouldn't want him to be permanent (he's supposed to be leaving in March) and I really wouldn't want TheTempWithNoName to get lumbered with him as her (technically, from a hierarchical PoV) boss, which is what would happen if she didn't apply or (and I find this hard to envisage) didn't get the post. Anyway, we shall see. Stay tuned. And wow, did I use enough brackets there??
I've seen a lot of frothing about LJ maybe going boom. I don't think it will , it's just that like everyone else, it's had to make cuts. Until the economy picks up, there's no point them trying to expand until they're more sure of the customer base, so I can totally see why the development side of things has been cut. Anyway, I've backed up my LJ just in case but I'm not going to panic and I'm not moving anywhere else. There's still the possibility someone else will buy it, even in this straitened times. And I won't believe it's a goner until it's gone :)
And on that positive note, I think I'm gonna go read and then wander off for an early night.
