Poor old LJ, I tend to update Facebook and then lose steam for updating here.

Still, I've been busy lately and I should record some of it and upload some pretty pics :) So we'll see if I can kickstart this thing.

I do read LJ several times a day so I keep up with people here. *cuddles LJ* Never leave me!

And now I really should prise myself away from the keyboard and go to bed :P

Hello :)

I have been sorely neglecting my LJ (again), mostly because I've had very little to say. But! It is February 1st! A shiny new month beckons, during which I will most certainly have stuff to talk about, even if only to squeak happily about my birthday :D Also, it's a shorter month. So I shall attempt to post every day for 28 291 days and even if I don't quite manage it, I'm hoping it'll get me into the habit of posting here again. I kinda miss LJ.

Things wot I must do today:-
Call Curry's, find out if I got the extended warranty on my washing machine. If yes, celebrate and book an engineer. If no, cry and call Hoover :P

1 Dammit, Leap Year. Forgot about that. So not quite as short as it could be :)

1) I used to really miss not being able to read LJ during the day because by the time I got home in the evening to read stuff, people had already commented and moved on. And now that I can read LJ during the day, there's been very little traffic and almost nothing that couldn't have waited until evening. Sod's Law, I hear you cackling....

2) If I see one more post on my flist from someone going "Oh woe, my paid account expires today, I'll miss the polls and the icons!", I am going to post a reply that says "You know damn well that by posting this, someone will stump up for paid time for you; if you're going to beg, at least admit it."

3) Goodness, am I the only person who reacts to crises by, y'know, dealing with them? We seem to be turning into a planet of people who can't cope unless they're on tranqs. I get being overwhelmed sometimes, I've been there, we all have. So take a step back, breathe, rant to a friend, whatever. But to flail and stick your head in the sand, rant on LJ about "OMGMYLIFEISSOHARD!" and hope it'll all go away every time you get an owie boo-boo? Get a backbone, puh-lease. (And I'm not talking about those with legitimate mental conditions, so put the burning torches and pitchforks down....)

4) In unrelated news, I'm getting remarkably intolerent in my old age :P

4a) I may possibly need more soothing tea....

I was ridiculously late into work today, through a combination of not sleeping well (or rather, sleeping well but not enough) and consequently managing to ignore my alarm until nearly quarter to 11. Oooops! Then when I did arrive at work it took me 20 minutes to find a parking place. Argle! I got to the office just in time to stop them sending out search parties for me, which was kinda sweet actually.

So this morning was pretty much a write off and I paid for being so sleepy in the afternoon with the beginnings of a headache. Beh. But tea, paracetamol and a couple of most interesting jobs made the afternoon whizz by. Before Christmas, the annual Consultation Document was sent out to all the schools and, for the first time, all the private nurseries. This is a booklet that outlines proposed changes to school funding and gets people to agree/disagree and write comments. It's my job every year to record all the replies - and brother, there's some wordy swine out there! However, it's pretty interesting stuff, even if you do want to bitch slap the whingers after a while. :D Now TooTall and FogHorn have to present the results this year's consultation results to the Schools Forum and I had to produce a couple of spreadsheets summarising the data. It was rather fun - I LIKE beating up spreadsheets like that. Really wish I got to do more of it but I don't really know how to go about that.

Also, I've been given a fantastic job by TooTall. The powers that be have decreed our electronic filing system should be standardised and have come up with a new directory structure. TooTall's showed me a draft and asked me to create a mock version and work out what directories our department needs and what sort of categories might need to be added, stuff like that. Hee! Should be oodles of fun.

First thing I did when I got home was watch "Leverage" - really excellent episode which made me a happy mousey by being not only excellent but Parker-centric. Major, major props to Beth Riesgraf for her work here; Parker was at times Insane!Parker and Human!Parker and she played them both convincingly and beautifully, with just the right amount of shading. I do love me some character development and (eee!) backstory! :) I naturally loved her character before but now she's really cemented Parker's place at the top of my "Fave characters" list. Hmm, wonder if I can persuade [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift to write a Parker-centric fic? Maybe I can buy her at the next (and last *sniffle) Sweet Charity auction and make her my slave choose that as my fic :D

Other work related news )

I've seen a lot of frothing about LJ maybe going boom. I don't think it will , it's just that like everyone else, it's had to make cuts. Until the economy picks up, there's no point them trying to expand until they're more sure of the customer base, so I can totally see why the development side of things has been cut. Anyway, I've backed up my LJ just in case but I'm not going to panic and I'm not moving anywhere else. There's still the possibility someone else will buy it, even in this straitened times. And I won't believe it's a goner until it's gone :)

And on that positive note, I think I'm gonna go read and then wander off for an early night.
