Before I went on sick leave, I had several discussions with FogHorn about my job, my role and how I wanted it to develop. She (and TooBrightTies) have long been aware that what I get asked to do isn't really a reflection of what I could do which is what leads to my frustrations with the work. So as part of the new PMD (umm, stupid acronyms, think it stands for Performance Management and Development) scheme, goals were drawn up, Things Were Planned. And I pretty much forgot about it over summer because it was the quiet time and holidays were happening and then, of course, I was off sick.
Well, since I've come back, much to my surprise, FogHorn's been good at her word and gradually introduced new jobs for me to do, important ones too, not make work stuff. Wrangling closed school accounts, monitoring this, posting that, sorting this, organising that. It's getting to the point where I need to order a work book I can write all the new procedures I'll have to do up in, just so I don't forget anything! It's mildly terrifying, but hey, I DID hint that more responsibility would be nice and that I could do more than be BigBouncy's scut puppy. I daresay scut work will be back with a vengeance soon as year end kicks into gear but at least now I've got other jobs to take the taste away, so to speak. Gotta give 'em credit, I did think they were blowing smoke when we discussed this last year but clearly, FogHorn is overrun with jobs and if I can take stuff off her desk, then they're relieved and happy for me to do so. Win/Win. Downside is I suspect I can't get a promotion unless I take some accountancy courses. Eww. Ick. I dunno. I don't consider myself good at this stuff but I might enjoy it more if I understood it, maybe? I'll have to ponder it.
*yawns* Ye gods I'm tired. I tell you what, I can't wait to get back into the swing of things. As lovely as it is to go to bed and sleep like a rock, I'd kinda like the old me back, who went to bed between 12 and 1 and got up ok the next morning :P Not the current me who stumbles out of bed like a zombie and stays like that for most of the day. I really do hope this is just a reaction to going back to work; I'll give myself until the end of February and if I'm still zombie!Dormouse, think I'll take myself down to the Doc's.
