Meme!

Comment to this entry and I'll pick three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favourite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

Cold Case - I'm a sucker for cop shows, particularly US cop shows, so it was fairly inevitable I'd catch CC early on. This is one of the very few shows I can honestly say I watched from Season 1 onwards - I think I saw the episode "Sherry Darlin'" and stayed with it from there. Oddly enough, I watched Tracie Thoms in CC for 2 seasons before becoming a huge fan of hers thanks to "Rent", but even so, I still loved her character the best :)

Leverage - ahahahah! I can claim I was a fan of this show before it even aired! The ever evil [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift and [livejournal.com profile] tyrell both raved about the leaked pilot for this show so much that I succumbed and downloaded it myself. Yep, totally hooked from the get go, it hits all the right buttons for me.

Dr Who - Well, this is practically a British institution, there are several generations who will cheerfully recount how they watched this every Saturday, usually peeking round from behind the sofa when it got scary. It was always on early Saturday evenings, everyone I knew watched it, so it was pretty inevitable I'd watch it too. I started watching during the Tom Baker years, quit about 3 episodes into Sylvester McCoy's version of the Doctor and came back enthusiastically for Christopher Ecclestone.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

Generally, I will stick with a show until it finishes its run; if I don't, then clearly it just wasn't quite good enough. Afterwards, though, I generally ease off into other things. The thing is, I'm not hugely involved in fandoms anyway - see question 4 for more info. When the show finishes, I'll still be a fan of the show and I may poke web sites about it now and again but I will find other things to squee over and move on. However, a big enough event might suck me back in. For example, I could be lured to a Xena convention if the guests were good and if the con occurred in the UK, because I have good memories of the cons I went to while I was in fandom. However, CC and Leverage aren't the sort of show that has conventions and I was never that into Dr Who so.....

3. Favourite episodes/books/movies/etc.?

Gnnng!
Cold Case - argh, too many too choose! :P Umm. I loved "The Badlands" and "Best Friends" from Season 2, "Dog Day Afternoons" and "Wilkommen" from Season 3, "Rampage" from Season 4, "Andy in C Minor" and "Wunderkind" from Season 5, "Wednesday's Women", "Triple Threat" and "Officer Down" from Season 6. Season 1 I really don't know that well, I've not seen many repeats.

Leverage - heh, only one season to choose from, that's a LOT easier :) "The Stork Job" was probably my fave from S1.

Dr Who - Really, I have no idea. Of the very old episodes, I can no longer remember episode titles and I can't be arsed to try and figure out what was what. There are several Tom B eps I loved and a few Peter Davidson I'd happily watch again. Of the recent incarnations, I'd say "Blink" for being one of the few episodes to scare the shit out of me as an adult, and "Human Nature", just because I loved the coda :)

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

The only fandom, ever, I've been seriously involved in in that regard was Xena, and I haven't touched that for years now, nor am I in touch with anyone I knew online then. Generally my fandom involvement consists of finding out every! last! bit! of trivia and then inflicting it on some luckless person, usually [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift, [livejournal.com profile] jenni411, [livejournal.com profile] 803am and [livejournal.com profile] oucellogal (sorry!).

Cold Case - well [livejournal.com profile] 803am and [livejournal.com profile] oucellogal have got me reading their fan fiction, and I have been known to post on the Look Again forum occasionally (and not at all recently), but that's the extent of my fandom frollickings. I've written one fan fic and I have another planned which is the most I've ever done for any show, ever, but Tracie has a lot to do with that :)

Leverage - I've read fan fiction happily, but I have no intention of writing it and I don't participate in any online discussion forums.

Dr Who - nuffink at all.

My involvement in fandom really is limited to those lucky few I squee to about the shows (whether they watch them or not!). So [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift, [livejournal.com profile] jenni411, [livejournal.com profile] 803am and [livejournal.com profile] oucellogal (the latter two I only know BECAUSE of Cold Case, which is cool!) are generally the ones I will discuss and disect shows with and squeak happily or rant about to about them. And, as I said, inflict all the trivia I've found :)

5. Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

Cold Case - kinda late in the day, given we're heading to what is almost certainly the final season, but I'll always recommend it to folks even after the show's in re-runs.

Leverage - HELL YES!! Why aren't you all watching it, dammit?!

Dr Who - ask me after I've seen the new man boy.

Just out of interest, how many of my fandoms do you know of? Surprise me by not picking the obvious one...

[identity profile] mitchy.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well I know all the ones listed in your profile and that you've squee'd about in your LJ ;) I was going to say Dr Who, Star Trek and Firefly. I can't see Trek listed though, so in case it's not a fandom of yours, I'll nominate Farscape as a replacement.

Ah, I'll give it a shot. :-)

Hmm. *ponders* OK, The Mentalist, Bones and *racks brains* X-Men!

I don't really do Fandoms as such but if you want to have a crack at finding 3 then I'll give this one a go too, if only to stop my lj gathering any more dust

[identity profile] mitchy.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Battlestar Galactica, Dr Who and, uh, *flails slightly* Oh! Babylon 5! :)

[identity profile] annuala.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, go on, then. Betcha can't find three. ;-)
