Scribblings from the Mitchy Side

I've had a complete lack of anything to say recently, hence the silence. I'm finding it easier to update facebook and twitter but I'm never going to give up my LJ, it's where I can come to rant or babble at length. You lucky people :D

We had the annual Finance Christmas Quiz at work last Thursday. My team, the Fiscal Fears came third! This was a vast improvement on last year and we were greatly helped by the additional two team members we had this year :) Seriously, anyone who can carefully work out the order of 15th and 16th century monarchs and the time period of their reigns is my new hero :D It was a fun quiz, everyone had a good time and the food provided was excellent. In addition, we were so taken with the logo devised for our team by the quiz organisers that we've adopted it as the official School Funding Mascot. I'll have to take a picture but think of a old fashioned pink piggy bank, cracked down the middle and held together with two sticking plasters. It's a pretty wonderful metaphor for what we do :D

I went shopping today. And came back with a new fridge freezer. Well not actually came BACK with it, it's being delivered next Friday afternoon :) But new fridge freezer ZOMG SHINY! I can't tell you how knackered the current one is - I know I was working out this morning that it's GOT to be in excess of 25 years old o_0 So it's more than done well but it's time for it to go to the great ice box in the sky - it's starting to get very leaky unless you de-ice the freezer door every day and I have to keep a tea towel wedged under the door to prevent ice cold puddles forming on the kitchen floor. And the new freezer self-defrosts! Huzzah!! *does the happy I hate housework no more defrosting freezers dance* *which looks remarkably like the regular Happy Mitchy Boogie*

I was seriously contemplating a new cooker but it's just a smidge too close to Christmas for my liking to risk it. Plus I need to organise the removal of the old one first because I'll need time to degunk the area behind the cooker where I've been unable to reach to clean. So yeh, too much faff to organise now but I shall take advantage of the New Year Sales, me thinkest :) Now, as regards the old one, if I could just figure out how to disable the ignition, I'd be happy. The problem is when you have the oven on, the auto-ignition on the hob clicks and clicks and clicks endlessly. So on Christmas Day, I'll either have to grit my teeth for the duration or, as I say, see if there's a way of disabling it. I know it can be done accidentally - it didn't work for ages and I was using matches to light everything - now i just have to figure out how to do it on purpose ;)

Having "fun" with the new car, because it turns out the DVLA didn't know i owned it and now I need to scramble about to get it registered to me and taxed. On Monday I have to send off several forms, the MoT and the insurance and hopefully they'll register it to me, tax it and send the new disc to me before it expires on 31st December. I have been advised though that I'll have a bit of leeway because any inquiry made to the DVLA after 31st will show that the car IS taxed. So I should be able to drive back from Cornwall at New Year's and not get yelled at for the out of date disc, assuming it doesn't arrive before I go. *crosses fingers* Worst comes to worst, I'll have to bum a lift to work for a couple of days :P

Annnd that's the State of the Mitchy. Now, if you'll excuse me, there's a nap that needs my full undivided attention :)
