Uuuuuh okaaaaaaay...

...flist, I appeal to you, have you ever come across this?

We had a mystery that we couldn't solve - periodically we'd go to the bathroom and find the lid and seat of the toilet soaking wet. And I mean soaking, like it had been under the shower. The area around the toilet was completely dry.

Solved it. While in the bathroom just now, I heard a vile gurgling noise and then water geysered up from the toilet bowl. Thank all the gods there was nothing but water in it at the time!! WTF?? What the hell is causing that? It's only started in the last couple of days. There's no pipe work going in the vicinity and in the 15 years I've lived here, it's never done that before.

I'll ring the water people tomorrow and wail at them but have any of you seen this before? Know what it is? I have cover with my water company for emergencies, I'm hoping this qualifies because I not long ago shelled out an absurd sum to get the toilet fixed. And yes, it could be related, I guess, but why has it taken so long for this to occur? The new toilet was fitted weeks ago.

*baffled squeakings*

Air in the pipes that is just making its way out now. I've seen that in country houses with old water grids, but not in suburbs or cities where the water network is typically newer and bigger.

Well it's an old grid in a town, not a city, so it could be I guess. Thanks!

Are you hooked up to a municipal sewer there, or do you have a cesspool?

If by "municipal" you mean the public water system, than yes, that :)

Maybe your toilet is haunted.

Okay, it's way more likely what Diya said. :P

I confess to not being sure if I should call a plumber or a priest o_0

Yes!

I don't know, but it happens in Sims2 all the time.

It's air in the pipes which should normally escape through the vent stack. On a house it's the pipe that extends up past the guttering, usually at the back of the property. (In a block of flats it's usually communal and something for the management company to deal with.)
My guess would be that it's blocked somehow. There should be some sort of cage on the top of the stack to prevent birds nesting on it/things going down and blocking it. I'd call a drain engineer rather than a plumber - Dynorod or the like.

Thanks Tex! I will speak to the management company this afternoon :)

I think they call it a bidet. ;-)

Oh ho ho ho!! :P

I've had experience of similar problems in the past. The advice given above is incorrect. It is a monster in your toilet. Be alarmed. Be very alarme

Please to be giving me the number of the Monster Hunters you used to clear the problem :D

I carry out my own Monster and Zombie eradication. My rates are reasonable. Well...they sound reasonable when you have a Monster coming out of your toilet and trying to eat you.
