I wouldn't say there's little known about his life: early life, yes, but his later life is reasonably well documented, as well as these things can be when we're talking about the Middle Ages. I have no idea how historically accurate the books are as I've not read them but I'm liking the realism of the presentation. They're not prettying up the period, something that always irritates me, and they do seem to be sticking to history in terms of events pretty well. It is, however, still ponderously slow but we seem to be getting to the meat of things now. Third episode airs tomorrow, that'll be the deal breaker :)

Although that said, I adore Mark Rylance, who I was fortunate enough to see in "Much Ado About Nothing" on stage many years ago. Wish I had seen him more on stage, but he's outstandingly good here.
