So Tuesday I was a-nattering to friend Rik and he mentioned that he and his partner Carol were heading into London for a couple of days, as Carol was organising the Visionary Design Awards (held last night). "Ooh!" I said, "Will you have any free time?" Turns out Rik was pretty much going to be at a loose end so I arranged to meet him at The Salisbury for 12-12.30 for food and booze. This fitted in wonderfully with my new policy: I have to be sociable at least once a week and get my arse out of the house. I also have to apply for one job a week absolute bare minimum *nods determinedly*

By a major miracle, I woke up on time - I forgot to set my alarm clock - and by dint of determined prising-myself-from-duvet was up and dressed and fueled with tea in plenty of time to call a taxi to take me to the station. I didn't, alas, leave myself enough time to walk but oh well. I was going to go to the post office first thing but noticed on the way past in the taxi that the queue was out of the door. So I held onto my job application form and made notes I'd have to find a post office when I got into London.

The train was running late so I was a bit later getting to the pub but not by much, it was only 12.10pm when I arrived. There was no sign of Rik, so I bought a pint, settled down and texted him to let him know I was there. He texted back saying he was just leaving the Victoria and Albert museum. Drat! If I'd known that, I'd have not bought the pint but scampered down to the nearby post office instead. Oh well :) So I waited, and waited, and waited and then it dawned on me that my phone was on silent mode and I should check it. One missed call from Rik so I texted him and he called right back. He claimed to have been in the pub already, walked around the bar and not seen me! I was sitting at the bar! In full view of the door! Dolt :) So he scampered back to the pub and we said hi! He then told me Carol's meeting was finishing very shortly so she was going to head over and join us for lunch. Yay! That was an unexpected bonus :)

So while he nursed a beer and guarded the seats, I scampered down to the post office (God bless the station designer who thought a local area map with major landmarks like cash tills and post offices in the Leicester Square Underground Station was a good idea - it was) nearby and successfully got my application posted. I had a very unusual experience in the PO - it was lunchtime, busy as heck and there were enough people behind the counter to cope with it! That's gotta be a first :)

I scampered back up to The Salisbury where Carol soon joined us and we nabbed a table and ordered food. I had the bacon cheeseburger which, truthfully, I was a bit disappointed with. It was awfully dry, and a bit solid. I like my burgers juicy and squishy. But it was food, the chips were great, I was hungry - there wasn't anything left on the plate :)

Then Carol had to leave to go to another pre-ceremony meeting and soon afterwards, Rik left to go back to the hotel to get ready. I took a quick tour round a nearby Waterstones but didn't buy anything and then headed home myself, missing the very worst of the commuter rush, thankfully. I was home by just after five. Whereupon I promptly crashed out for a couple of hours. Why is drinking at lunchtime always more potent than drinking in the evening?!

When I did surface, I did some RP with [livejournal.com profile] therealsherbs and [livejournal.com profile] mostlyarmed, which was cut short early because Sherbski was shattered. As I was too, I didn't mind a bit :) By 10.30pm, I'd crashed out again, only to wake up at 1.30am and be unable to get back to sleep. Bah! So I logged on and nattered to friend Jenni for a while, then finally got back to sleep around 5am. Apart from a brief half-asleep stumble to feed the cat at around 8am, I stayed unconscious until lunchtime. Luckily I didn't have any major plans for today :P

*yawns* I do need to go out though. I have no milk! I have no bread! I foresee a quick trip to the local corner shop - I'm too dozy to go further than that today :)
