Found buried in an article here,

Gaiman is the Hugo and Nebula-Award winning author of such novels as "American Gods" and "Coraline," and is best known as the creator of DC Comics' legendary "Sandman". He wrote the English Language Script for the Miyazaki film Princess Mononoke. His first feature, MirrorMask, directed by Dave McKean, premieres at the Sundance Film Festival. His short film A Short Film About John Bolton was just released on DVD. Projects in development based on work by Gaiman include Coraline, which Henry Selick is writing and directing, and Stardust, with director Matthew Vaughn. Gaiman is writing and will be directing Death and Me, based on his DC Comics graphic novel "Death: The High Cost of Living" for New Line Cinema.

Not shy just don't use LJ!

I'm sure you can work it out, I think it's possible the first time you read D:THCOL it was my copy! Although if you don't recall this you probably wouldn't guess it (if you understand what I mean).

So put your name at the bottom of your post :)

Mike? Is that you? :)

I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who would do Death well.

Portman?

I doubt if it would be a big name. There's probably a lesser known actress out there who'd be perfect. This doesn't scream Huge Budget, at least not yet.

This could be a prime example of when an unknown actress who fitted the part perfectly might be a better option than someone well-known.

And you could always think of lesser known actresses.

*Pause* In thise case, I can't, but you know what I mean.

I mean, who'd do perky goth?

Personally, I hope it doesn't happen. I think Death and indeed the entire Sandman universe should stay in the imaginations of the readers. To make a film makes it part of concrete reality and it can only disappoint.

Plus, chances are, it'll be a very, very bad movie. I'll start thinking more positively if a name like Tim Burton gets attached until then I'm just going to hope it all goes away.

You don't trust Gaiman to direct his own work in a way that will preserve the magic?

Sorry, managed not to read the bit in bold where you say he's going to be directing! *grin* I'm more hopeful that it won't be atrociously bad, although not entirely positive: Gaiman doesn't have the clout as a director to necesarily be able to make the film he wants to make.

I still would rather it stayed in the comic books rather than on the screen.

You don't have the watch the film...

True. One way to preserve the mystery. I can think of lots of comic book adaptations that fans have politely ignored. Judge Dredd anyone?

Thank you. Gosh I would never thought of that by myself. [/sarcasm]

I'm not suggesting it should be banned or anything. [livejournal.com profile] mitchy wrote a post about how she was excited about the idea of the new film and I commented with reasons why I wasn't.

I shall decide whether to watch the film when and if it ever gets made and I know more about it.

It's just you sound like you don't want them to even try ("I still would rather it stayed in the comic books rather than on the screen.") when I don't see how your enjoyment of the paper version can be spoiled no matter what the celluloid version turns out.

I wasn't offering literal practical advice...

I'm not sure how much I trust the Wachowskis to do it though.
