Today was the day I had to go to work. Meh. I think that sums it up, really. I had to be prodded awake this morning as there was no way in hell my internal alarm clock was going to work this morning. I was very sound asleep. *giggles* I have to say, the apprehensive look on [livejournal.com profile] jenni411's face when my eyes opened made up for things somewhat :)

I took one of the apple cakes [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 made in into work and that seems to have been popular.

Tomorrow, it's up early to scamper for the 9.20am train and join [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 in the queue for half-price theatre tickets at the booth in Leicester Square. And then we're either going to Buckingham Palace or to the Albert and Victoria museum. Then in the evening, hopefully we're seeing a show. If not, we may catch a movie.

*yawwwwns* And now I need some sleep :)

We started late today, neither of us managed to surface before nine and if the phone hadn't rung, I suspect I wouldn't have surfaced until much, much later than 10am :P

We didn't have any firm plans today beyond going to Stevenage FC to watch a football match this evening. With that in mind, we kept our activities local and went to the cinema in Stevenage to watch "The Queen". Excellent little movie, brilliant cast and an very intriguing look at the events around Diana's death from the Queen and Blair's PoV. They so totally had someone who worked with Blair working on that movie. In fact, I may have to make a separate post later reviewing it and discussing it, because it's left me with lots of thoughts and questions.

Afterwards, we wandered into the town centre, where I was mugged by some hot doughnuts (mmm!) and then we attacked Waterstones. I still had some book tokens to use, so I did :) Hee! I bought a new (to me) Spencer novel by Robert B. Parker, a new Donna Leon (yes, again) and "Temeraire", the dragon book everyone is raving about :)

We then wandered back to the car and drove over to the business park near the football ground, where we ate at a Harvester restaurant. Two cheeseburgers were duly dispatched with great enthusiasm and very nice they were too :) There was waddling back to the car and then we headed to the ground, which proved to be a short walk away. Tiny ground but perfectly adequate, and the stand we were in had seats, for which I was relieved. The game itself was fun, although the gap between the higher divisions and the Conference was easy to see - lots of hoofing the ball upfield and hoping, with occasional moments of skill. I'm happy to report Stevenage won the match 1-0, which made the evening even more enjoyable.

And now we're back home and relaxing. Well, I'm relaxing. [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 is attempting to repack her suitcase (should be amusing!) for tomorrow she heads into London to stay in a hotel until she goes home on Saturday. I'm in work tomorrow but I'll be joining her in London on Thursday and Friday. Thursday we're going to Buckingham Palace and then hopefully to see a show Thursday evening. Friday we're doing the Victoria and Albert museum and then meeting Rik and Carol at Bellini's for a meal Friday night. :) Should be lots of fun! Hee!

We didn't make it to Bath.

*sighs*

What we did get was 2 and a half hours in a solid traffic jam on the A1(M) with no option to bail out and find another route until the outside lane traffic finally cleared and I could haul the car out of the standstill that was the inside lane (queuing for the M25 junction) and head south to where I could turn round and go back North.

I was not a happy mousey.

Over a vast cooked breakfast in Little Chef, [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 and I decided that we just couldn't face another 2 hours in the car driving to Bath, especially as we were hearing on the radio the M25 was slow anti-clockwise. So we bailed. We've lost the hotel room but it was half the cost of what I'd have used in petrol to get there, plus parking fees, so eh, what the hell.

Instead we spent a very happy afternoon pottering around the Veralamium museum, Roman Theatre and bath house mosaic in St Albans :) Much more fun!

And now [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 is baking apple and walnut cake. Life is good again!
