mitchy at 11:06pm on 08/06/2007 under ocean's thirteenI had no idea this came out here today - there was happy Mitchy squeaking when I twigged and instant booking of ticket for tonight. Yes, yes, I AM rather fond of the movies, why'd you ask? :D
I'm happy to report the movie kicketh the arse and is a welcome return to the nuts and bolts that made the first movie such a joy. Like its originator, this movie is a good ol' fashioned heist caper and that's pretty much all it is. No love triangles, no worries about getting the girl, just a good ol' "We're gonna bust this guy's ass because" romp.
The main cast are a joy as ever and the interplay between Clooney and Pitt really underpins the whole thing. Al Pacino is suitably hammy as the villain and Eddie Izzard, who seems to be quietly cornering the US movie market for shady British characters, is a real treat. In terms of action, the secondary guys of the team do most of the work this time, leaving Danny and Rusty almost (but never completely) on the sidelines but that's ok, they were around juuuuuuuuuust enough to keep this viewer happy :)
Does it hit the heights of 11? Mmmmaybe not quite but damn, it's close enough for me not to care. Highly recommended, go and see it :)
