Let me make this clear - I can handle heat. What I can't handle is the horrid, cloying sticky heat we have at the moment. When it rained today, as it did two or three times, it was like being in a steam bath. Beh. I had to go down to the town centre at lunch time. Now I've reached the point where I can walk back up the hill to the offices without collapsing and begging for oxygen. Today? I stopped twice for a good wheeze and a bit of a rest before continuing. Got back to the office, so I'm told, redder than a tomato. :)

However, I didn't throw up so today was much better. I've cut down on my tea (only one cup today!) and have been guzzling water, which has helped. I may risk a cup of tea later, just cos :)

And now I'm watching the football and wanting the French to win. Not that I'm a huge fan of the French, I just want to Christiano Ronaldo of Portugal blub like a girl :)

Vindictive? Moi? :D

So this morning I prised my sleepy self up and out early enough to drive to Aunty Eve's. I got there at 10am, which means that I did the WGC to Rainham (Kent) journey in an hour and ten minutes. Given the massive road works between junctions 24 and 27, this was seriously impressive.

Aunty Eve was thrilled to see me as usual (aww!) and we nattered happily until lunch time when I drove us over to Gore Farm and The Snoring Owl for lunch. Mmmm, lunch! I had a superb steak and mushroom crumble, with veggies, with a heavenly cheesecake for dessert. Aunty Eve had fish cakes (home made, looked very nice) with potatoes and a sweet dipping sauce. She surprised me by having dessert and duly disposing of something called "cappuccino dessert cake". Apparently it was less like cake, and more like a sponge pudding and was very tasty! :)

Duly replete, Aunty Eve made a swipe for the bill but I beat her to it and won the ensuing argument about who was going to pay. Bless her, she's on a minuscule pension but she worries about me picking up the tab :) Bill settled, we went around the farm shop, where I indulged in purchasing some cheese from the excellent dairy section, and some gorgeous looking raspberries from the fruit and veg section. ([livejournal.com profile] cookwitch, [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel, you two would swoon in this place, I should take you both down sometime :) ) Aunty Eve got a few bits and bobs and then we nipped into the gift shop, where I bought another cat magnet for the fridge. I got a black and white one this time, to go with the silver tabby one I got last time ;)

We left and as we were going out, my eye fell on a "Decorate your own terracotta pot" kit that was on sale, half price, for £6. We got to the car, with me still pondering the kit, practically ready to go, when I finally said "No, I gotta go get it, if I don't I'll be sorry later!" So I nipped back and bought it. It looks a fun project, though I plan to ignore the patterns and templates they've included in the kit and design something for myself. It's not a big pot, but it's a good solid one and I want to make it look nice.

Back at home, there was napping for a while and then Aunty Eve made tea before I headed home. It was lovely to see her and she was very perky and cheerful, which was good. The cooler weather is better for her clearly and obviously, my visiting always cheers her up.

Dr Who - minor spoilers for this and next week's ep )

And now I'm watching the Argentina v Mexico game, which is excellent, and pondering tea. There was a [livejournal.com profile] dduane chat earlier that was fun and now I know that there will be a new episode of "The Big Meow" tomorrow to look forward to. I might save it up, in case I need consoling if/when England lose! :)

ShitStirrer got Brazil and Germany......Who said fix? Own up! :)

Pity, I wanted Brazil to win if England couldn't but now I'll be praying even harder for us :P

Football every day for a month, *sighs contentedly* Well ok, not quite every day at the later stages but for the first couple of weeks it's a football fan's paradise. The chance to see different countries and different players all (theoretically) at the top of their game, a show case for the sport.

Which, presumably, is why England really stunk this afternoon - which, to be fair, is par for the course, as we never start these tournaments well. At least this time we stunk but still managed to win. Unlike poor old Sweden, who couldn't manage to beat a 10 man Trinidad and Tobago, a team from an archipelagic state so small, it fits into Sweden about 82 times. (That isn't an exaggeration, btw, I actually checked this out). So overall, I'm not going to wail too much but damn, we'd better play a hellava lot better that that the next time I watch :P

Course, now all the grumbling is starting. "There's nothing but football! Whine Whine!" To which I reply "There there, it only happens once every four years and so let us footie fans have our summer of fun". Course, when it's wall to wall sports (cricket, Wimbledon and the World Cup, non-sports fans will have my total sympathy, even though I like watching two out of three of those. The sooner we move to a digital TV country so that the sports can be relegated from the main channels to specialist channels, the better. Then the BBC and ITV and others can pacify the non-sports people with their usual crap programming. :)

In the meantime - YAY!! FOOTBALL!! *does the happy Mitchy boogie*

Hmm, I need a World Cup icon......
