Enough of my flist has seen Serenity that I will finally post my thoughts. Note there may be spoilers in the comments too!!

Whedon, you bastard!

OK, I swiped that comment from this totally brilliant skit "Serenity in 2000 words or less" - but it does sum up my mood rather well!

Loved the movie. Loved it, loved it. Hated the loss of Book and Wash. Particularly Wash. However, given they want to try and develop a franchise, I'm guessing Alan Tudyk may have asked to be written out. Or you know, Joss Whedon really is a total bastard.

Waaaah! Wash! *sniffles*

But the rest of the movie? Totally blew my socks off. I've read that people felt some characters acted a little out of character, compared to how they were on the TV show. Do I think Mal would need to threaten the entire crew with a gun to get them to do what he wants? No, maybe not. But hey, it worked in the context of the movie and that's the main thing.

Waaah! Wash! *sniffles*

Summer Glau - woah, nellie. Nailed River Tam, just totally nailed it. They say it's the quiet, crazy psychos you need to watch o_0 Plenty of character development left there too.

Nathan Fillion as Mal was excellent, having to carry the vast bulk of the scenes, and Chiwetel Ejiofor seriously impressed me as The Operative. The script was full of the zingy one liners we're familiar with from Whedon's work and the set pieces were truly amazing. And the Reavers could give a person nightmares *brrr*

The opening shots (and yes, it was two shots, not one huge tracking shot) were absolutely breathtaking, showing us Serenity and her crew in glorious detail. Just jaw dropping. Whedon might be king of the anvils but he knows how to direct teh pretty :)

Waaah! Wash! *sniffles*

Would I see it again? Yes, yes I would, but I can wait. It's not a "oh wow, I MUST see that again!" thing. (Though I probably will, just to see the Reaver fleet smash into the Alliance fleet on a big screen, one more time :D). There's enough hooks left for another movie, if the box office and, more importantly, the DVD sales, hit the projected numbers. All we can do is cross our fingers :) But go see this movie if you loved the series. Just go.

Now "Pride and Prejudice" I DO want to see again, it's just such a terrific feel good experience. Does it match up to the BBC series? Not if you like your adaptations word for word, no. But dang, this movie hit all the right points for me! Keira Knightley is outstanding and finally proves she can act her little socks off. Matthew MacFadyen is a drool-worthy Mr Darcy and totally overcame my doubts about his ability to play the role. The supporting cast is outstandingly good; if there was an Oscar just for "assembling best cast" this would win, hands down. And talking of Oscars, if Brenda Blethlyn isn't even nominated, I will burn down the Chinese Theatre, I swear. Frankly, she deserves to win, but I'm not sure what the competition is like for Supporting Actresses this year. She is just superb in the role.

Mention must be made of the locations - they must have scoured the length and breadth of Britain to find the right stately homes and manor houses and brother, did they ever find the right places. If you don't drool over the scenery at least once, you have absolutely no soul :)

I really want to go and see this again - anyone on my flist interested? Great script! Witty lines! Austen! Hunky men! What's not to love? :)

I did that too heh
Not with this entry, but on another site.

It doesn't ruin the moment all that much really, but damn curiosity! hehe

Go see the movie anyway. I knew about that beforehand, and if I hadn't I'd have been *devastated*! It still rocks.

Also: Silly you for reading spoilers!!

I'd love to go and see it but I'm not sure it's going to be possible so I might have to wait for the DVD

FANS SEEING THE MOVIE FOR THE FIRST TIME: Whew. Wait, why is my friend who already saw this movie cringing and whimpering?

So true!! Also, "AAAUGH! Whedon, you bastard!" might just have to enter my vocabulary for the next year or so.

*nodsnodsnods* A catchphrase in the making, methinkest!!

And re: the spoiler Sherbski saw - I didn't know at all, and I spent the last bit of the movie in total denial over what happened. I was convinced right til the bitter end it was all a dreadful mistake and Joss was just messing with our heads as usual...

Whedon, you bastard!!!

I'd go, if I wasn't, like, y'know, 3,000 miles away. *ducks*

I think, given "I, Robot" and "Dodgeball", Alan Tudyk will not be wanting for jobs in the near future and might have left of his own desire. Let's face it - with Josh's writing, killing off a character is easier than leaving them alive.
