Grey's Anatomy!

Oh dear. I have been sucked in by this show, well and truly. Cue frantic downloading of every episode ever that isn't on DVD. Which, as Season 2 has just wrapped in the US, means 27 episodes of avi joy plus one box set of S1.

I was first alerted to the show by [livejournal.com profile] kemintiri and another mutual friend, who reckoned I'd love it. They're right, I do. I finally caught an episode or 4 when S1 started broadcasting here. And got hooked. And then promptly started the downloading etc. So hooked am I that when I got the DVDs of S1, I didn't start watching the eps I hadn't seen, I watched all four episodes I had seen again, first. And enjoyed 'em all over again.

That's the sign of a deep addiction folks :)

It's a cross between ER and Peyton Place, which would normally send me running, screaming, from the TV, but tight scripts and terrific cast have kept me watching and falling in love with all the characters. The characters aren't all that likeable, they're all deeply flawed, in many ways, but they all have enough redeeming features that you keep watching. Oddly enough, it's the lead character that's the least likeable of all, which is ok, it gives them somewhere to go with development and storylines. And anyway, the back up cast more than compensates.

Doesn't hurt there's there's eye candy for all, either :)

Anyway, the real reason I'm posting, apart from to say "Go watch it! Watch it NOW!!", is there was just an exchange that had me howling out loud with laughter, to the point that the cat was ready to bolt from sofa. The back story is complicated, but the short version is as follows. Married residents, McDreamy and Addison, have recently been split after she cheated on him with McDreamy's best friend. They're now back together in Seattle (where the show is set) and patching things up. In this episode, Mark, the Other Man, appears at the hospital and promptly puts the moves on a female doctor. McDreamy comes out of nowhere and punches the man out.

Cut to scene in front of the Chief Surgeon.

Chief: Someone want to tell me what happened out there.
*McDreamy stares meaningfully at wife*
Addison: I uhh..*explanation of back story* ...caught me in bed with him
*pause*
Chief, leans close to McDreamy: You hit him full strength, right?
McDreamy: right.
Chief: Then we're all right here...*walks out*

:D

I laughed :P

Hee :) I just saw the two parter, the one *is being careful of spoilers* where they had to evacuate the ORs but Meredith, McDreamy, Cristina and Burke had to stay behind? Woah nellie! That was a jaw-dropper :)

So, between you and me, and bearing in mind I've not seen all of S2, what's with Izzie and Alex? I actually kind of like Alex more than I do Izzie, who I occasionally have the urge to slap :)

Izzie is an interesting character, and Alex is, too. I like Izzie much more, and Alex can be a real pig! But also very kind. Mostly a pig.
I am catching up on S1, and have watched most of s2, and know the episodes you were refering to.
Izzie's background is very different from the other characters. You'll see.

Hmm... I may have to borrow your season 1 box set when you're done and give the show a try. The trailers have had me on the fence since everything about the show is just what I like (cross between Peyton Place and ER? Sign me up!) and everything about that blonde who's the centre of all the trai.ers is everything I hate in TV characters. Is she as annoying all the time in the show? And is she, proportionally, in it as much or is there plenty of the other characters to enjoy?

Happy to lend, though I may have to watch all the eps again first. There's only 9 shows in the first season, for reasons that escape me. There's a mind boggling 27 episodes in S2 - at least one of them was meant to be shown in S1 but was held over, so I'm guessing two or three others were too.

As for Meredith - the annoying blonde - yes, she's annoying, but you feel sorry for her sometimes and she, like the others, does have redeeming features. But the supporting cast is SUPERB and they are given plenty of screen time :) In fact, it was Sandra Oh (who was superb in Sideways) who bagged an Emmy award for the show for her role as Cristina, Meredith's friend and fellow doctor. Trust me, after a while, you'll start watching the show for the other characters and not Meredith :)

Actually, you know what? Just trust me and go buy S1 - it's not expensive, being such a short season - and watch it :)
