Well that was interesting, she says, understating as usual.

Baltur being not guilty, yeh, not a surprise. I was damn sure they weren't going to kill him off yet, he's too central. But he's going to have interesting (Chinese curse sense of the word) times now and that he deserves. I do hope someone punches him out soon, gods, he's unlikeable!

The very last scene - OK, I was spoilered a teeny bit in that there was a "Guess the sentence from this asterisked clue" tidbit in an Ask Ausiello column on the 21st (scroll down to see it) and I'd worked it out and who said it. So seeing Starbuck? Not a surprise. Beautifully done, however, if a bit cheesey.

Seeing who the four supposed Cylons are? Holy frak, that was a surprise. I'd always pegged Roslin's assistant as being one, but Anders, Tyrel and Tighe? No frakkin' way. I refuse to believe that music has anything to do with the cylons. And I'll stay in denial until it's proved beyond a shadow of a doubt. Have to say that scene was very well done indeed and all four actors did a beautiful job. And for once, I was right behind Tighe, he nailed it. "We're who we've been, this means nothing for now. Let's go save the ship". Be interesting to see if (if they are Cylons) what other commands might come along. I mean, we saw Boomer being manipulated without her knowledge in Season 1, so theoretically the same could happen to them. Except...they're part of the final five (if, IF they're Cylons, I must keep repeating that) so maybe the rules are different? Maybe the Final Five are actually pro-human? That would be a turnaround, wouldn't it.

The scene with Athena, Six and Roslin was just superb, well done by all three actresses and a very, very intriguing hook for next season and/or the movie.

Bad things - so they let any Tom, Dick or Harriet onto the flight deck, help them into a Viper and send them on their merry way, huh? No way in hell should Lee Adama have been able to get a Viper to pilot. But then they couldn't have had that scene with Starbuck could they, so yet again, practically gets shoved in favour of the storyline. They'll do that once too often one of these days.

As season endings go, it had a lot of good things and yet...did anyone else feel it ended a smidge flat? It lacked the punch of "So what do we do? Fight them until we can't." and yet it shouldn't have. The fleet's are squaring up, Starbuck's back and anything can and probably will happen now. And yet, I'm not bouncing around going "Argh! RDM, you bastard! I have to wait how long?? for the next ep?" like I was last time. Possibly because, I think, this season was all about a really slow burn and the middle was flatter than a pancake in terms of pacing. It needed more of a ramp up than four episodes and, frankly, the trial of Baltur held everything back. Fun as it was, interesting as it was - and Lee Adama's court room speech was superb - it was at the wrong time and place. They should have had THAT SL as the middle bunch of eps and then used the last four to wind us up into a fever pitch for the Final Five and Starbuck's return. A missed opportunity I feel but I do know I'll be watching next time around. Even at it's worst, BSG hasn't lost me. Yet.

Reading your review crystallized something for me. RDM has said all along that there is a planned ending and that what comes in the middle is more organic and sets things up for that ending.

Season three is the calm before the storm of season 4. It's the middle of a novel. It's the set up for the climax and wrap-up, which rumor has as, at this point, season 4. So yes, in a way, it deal feel flat, but I think it was kind of meant to, in a story-telling sense. (Although in a ratings sense, not so smart. :P)

Season 1 was pure energy. It set up everything that was to follow.

Season 2 began as pure energy, because it had the momentum that was built up with season 1, but then it began to lose steam in the second half.

Season 3 had the mid-story pick up of the New Caprica arc, but then fell into a holding pattern, waiting for the last handful of episodes to set up season 4.

So I think (hope, PRAY) that season 4 will be a return to (20 episodes plus 2 of) pure energy and the show will go out on a high, leaving us wanting more.

I want to know where the movie's going to fit in. I know they're filming it this year, which is why no more BSG until 2008. But I don't know if they plan to use the film budget to sort out what happens at the nebula or not. With two huge fleets facing off, a movie budget has got to be tempting but then that would be a lousy place to start a movie audience off with the story. If the movie is for AFTER S4...well. That raises a whole other bunch of questions, like how will they end S4?

here because of sabaceanbabe,

According to RDM interviews the movie will be whole cast, some done as flash back to the time when Pegasus arrived. Cain will be back don't know about the others. RDM says it will tag nicely into discoveries in season 4, although didn't he also say he has no ideas for season 4 and figured he'd get drunk and meet with the writers and figure 'something' out. --I have a hate hate thing with RDM. I WANT to love him as much as I love the show, but he just keeps pulling this "I'm a stupid selfish bastard so shoot me" attitude.

his show, he can write how he wants but DAMN!
