...I have come to the conclusion that if I had a brain, I'd only be half as stupid as I am now.

*headdesks*

It's a long story, but suffice to say it involves attempting to plan a trip to the USA for this weekend without a passport or, in fact, realising that the dates I was booking were THIS WEEKEND.

sdkfjasofjdklfjas;ldfjdslk

So now I have to do the frantic dash to the passport office in Peterborough to see if I can get a new passport before weekend 23/24 or bump the planned trip forward another week. Got an appointment for Thursday. Will have to sheepishly ask work for the day off. This is after having today off sick.

And all because I want to see Rent on Broadway before it closes....

Yeh. I know.

Ohhh, I sympathise. I've gone ahead and bought my ticket to England without having my visa in hand yet, and I'm twitching about it. Best of luck!

Oh good, glad it's not just me! Thanks, hon, and good luck to you too! You have to get over here so there can be cider-age :D

That sounds fun ;) (Well, aside from the having-to-get-a-passport-in-a-hurry bit, which is Not Fun. I've had to do that once when I had to travel for work at relatively short notice and my passport didn't have long enough left on it.)

It will be great fun if I get there. Totally, completely crazy, but great fun :)

Hey, you've flown to the US fairly recently, haven't you? What's the word on the size of the hand luggage you're allowed now? I'm only going for 2 nights, I'm thinking I should be able to get away with no checked in luggage at all, assuming I can take a backpack on board.

"Recently" in the sense of "last year, but we're flying out again the day after tomorrow" ;)

Depends on the size of your backpack. I routinely use one of those conference-freebie rucksacks as a laptop bag and also as my hand luggage, so if you're thinking of something that sort of size, you should be fine (don't forget there are still restrictions on liquids etc.) From where, and with whom, are you flying?

Not sure with whom, likely to be AA or BA though, maaybe Virgin (thank GOD I didn't book the airline tix for this weekend, or I'd be so screwed right now). Also very likely will have to go from Heathrow *shudderfits* Dammit :P

here are the BA regs on hand luggage -- note that you can take two bits of hand luggage now (useful for you, I should think!). Virgin appears to be one piece plus a handbag at the moment -- I note that it's amazing what you can fit in a sufficiently large handbag in terms of books -- and AA looks like it's just one piece of carry-on.

I personally don't mind Heathrow but then we live about equidistant from Heathrow and Gatwick, and Luton and Stansted are an utter pain in the arse to get to (easier to go from Southampton, for heavens' sake)

*checks dimensions of her rucksack* Excellent, looks like I'm good with all three airlines :D Gleee!

And yes, I imagine the two biggies are easier for you. I'd love to fly from Stansted, but AA don't seem to be doing that yet. Although it's supposed to happen at some point. Can't wait, myself, it'll mean I can avoid the M25 completely every trip :)

PS: crazy... well, I've flown to the US for a gig before now, so I can't exactly comment there ;)

I took a backpack as carryon luggage last month, & didn't have any trouble. And you know what I cram into a "carryon" ....

*gigglefits* I am usually in awe of your luggage, yes :D Looks like I'll be fine in terms of bag sizes. I pretty much won't bring anything I can't buy in a drug store when I'm over there in terms of wash kit, and even with my clothes in my rucksack, it still means I will have plenty of room for chocolate for Jenni's :D

Which of course means I'll have room to bring loot back *plots happily*

Oooh dammit, I could have met you if I'd got my act together! Have a fantastic time and tell me alllll about it when you get back! Happily, I am staying with a buddy, so no accommodation required.

Fingers crossed and I'll be there!! :D

Lol... my friend just came back from seeing it for the billionth time. I'm thoroughly jealous.

Don't forget if you ever find yourself heading San Francisco bound, let me know! I always have a couch and time to lend to LJ friends!

Ooh thank you, I'll remember that! :D Likewise if you ever head to the UK :)

Btw, I've been meaning to say, I adore that icon. Should I know who that is? That shot of her in the black tank top....*whimpers*

Lol... it's my pride and joy, a dear friend made it for me. It's Michelle Rodriguez. Those shots are from S.W.A.T and The Fast and the Furious mostly I believe.

Cracks me up sometimes because people see that and assume I'm Latina, while I'm about as white bread as you can get - Irish, Czech, Norwegian, with a tiny smidge of Portuguese.
