Heh, how about that, I just rang the doc's to get some dietary advice and it turns out I'm pretty much eating what I'm supposed to be eating already. Bland foods, nothing spicy, avoiding bread, meat, anything rich; yoghurt's good apparently and I've stocked up with that. I just bought what I craved :)

So, cookery types out there, can you help me plot some meals for the next few days?

Are you allowed garlic? If so, cold cucumber salad:

- mash one clove of garlic with a teensy bit of salt
- add 2-3 cups of yoghurt
- chop 2-3 cucumbers
- sprinkle liberally with dried mint.

Add some ice cubes if it's hot out to make it more refreshing and delicious.

I'm not entirely sure of the proportions as I'm used to doing it for my own bowls and stuff and just go by sight, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. ; ) And if you're not allowed garlic, just put some more mint.

Also, mjaddara: comfort food extraordinaire! It's a realllly simple lentil dish that's high-yield, delicious and gets better the next day.

- chop and fry an onion in vegetable oil
- wash a bowlful of brown lentils; add to fried onions. Mix.
- fill the pot 2/3s of the way up with water and cook on high.
- bring to a boil; let it boil for about 20 minutes, then reduce the heat by half, stirring occasionally.
- add 1/3 cup of rice. Keep stirring so that it doesn't stick to the bottom. Add salt, pepper and allspice to taste. About 20 minutes later it should be ready.

And beyond that, soup, soup, soup. Vegetable soups. Just fry onions with celery and mushrooms and broccoli, drop in some bay leaves and maybe some pepper balls, add water, boil -- it's a great tonic.

BTW, what type of yoghurt would you recommend? I'm guessing natural plain?

Chicken soup!

(You knew somebody had to say it eventually)

Chicken anything, I would imagine, as long as it's not rich or spicy.
