Been poorly for the past couple of days, which meant I actually slept through the American election. Not a bad way of doing it but I could have done without the whole "being sick" thing. I was very relieved when I emerged this morning to discover Obama had 4 more years. WOO HOO! Way to go :)

And FOUR states have ratified marriage equality. There's hope for us yet.

So that was another fun 10 days :P Chest infection pretty much kicked my arse for all of last week. Tuesday (7th), not only was I spiking a fever, coughing up a lung and attempting to thwart a killer headache from hell, but my lower back muscles decided to get in on the act and started spasming like it was going out of fashion. It was agony. It was so bad, I made the supreme effort to get dressed and drive very sloooooowly to my doctors for the emergency surgery that afternoon.

Doc was ok, she gave me some non-coated antibiotics and a course of steroids, to treat the infection and the asthma, and after I whined extensively, she grudgingly wrote a prescription for some anti-spasm pills. My argument was it was all very well her saying "well you need to give it xyz hours, take paracetamol and give it time to work", but that was lousy pain management. c.f. temps, cough, headache etc. Anyway, it worked - Tuesday night I was able to sleep with the back spasms reduced enough that I could ignore 'em.

After that, it was a case of slowly but surely. I started feeling better, properly better, on Friday and I actually stopped coughing over the weekend. Still pretty sluggish but that's to be expected. I've got a follow up appointment with the asthma nurse this coming Friday and we'll see how it goes. It feels better, i suspect there's room for improvement.

Yesterday, I felt well enough to go to the movies and to the Capital One Cup game at Stevenage. Had a lovely time :) I saw "The Bourne Legacy" - good film, but very much a "To Be Continued" movie, with more questions than answers. But I liked Renner lots and I've always liked Rachel Weisz and they had a good chemistry together. I'm liking how they're folding in this new series with the old trilogy, very nicely done.

The football was excellent, Stevenage won 3-1! So they go through to the next round. Good to see all the new players working well together. Weather was absolutely glorious - I took a heavy sweater with me but never needed it, it was that mild a night. Lovely! First proper League game will be on Saturday and I'm looking forward to it :)

Today, apart from a quick trip to drop off a repeat prescription, I've taken it easy. I know how easy it is to have a setback after a major chest infection so I'm being cautious. The cat approves, he's spent all day snuggling up with me, bless him :)

So far, I've seen 1 and a quarter Olympic football matches, having been stuck in a hideous traffic jam for two hours on the way to the Coventry games, had a fabulous day out at the Natural History Museum, went to Disneyland Paris, where I had my bag stolen after 2 hours. Cash, cards, camera, all gone. *sighs* But we managed to have a good time anyway. Came home, raided Foyle's and Forbidden Planet (oh dear, oh deary, deary me), and went to the Wembley football match which was fantabulous. And then? I fell over sideways with a chest infection - in fact, I was sufficiently poorly that I called the out of hours doc yesterday. I'm now on heavy duty antibiotics and starting to feel vaguely (very vaguely) human.

Big shout out to [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel who came to my rescue yesterday and drove over to take me to the late night pharmacy in Welwyn so I could get my drugs. She's a star. Another big shout out to [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 who's had to entertain herself for 2 days and put up with a hostess who has spent most of the last 36 hours asleep :P

Feeling much better today. Didn't sleep well again, was up at 5am, but the discomfort was lots less than yesterday. I pootled around until the afternoon and then I had a lovely long snooze. Felt much, much better when I woke up. Just had proper food for tea and feel great.

Hurrah!

Steak dinner at The Stanborough on Monday, I think. I'll give my body the weekend to fully recover :)

I have been an Unhappy Mousey all day, actually, most of the night too. Something I ate last night really didn't agree with me - I'm suspecting the mini-raspberry cheesecake, I blamed it tasting odd on being a low fat concoction but now 'm wondering if maaaaaybe that wasn't the reason. *sigh* Not much to do but wait for my system to deal with it as it sees fit. The tummy ache is a lot better and I'm now pondering food - toast, probably and take it from there.

Thank goodness for hot water bottles *cuddles*

In much better news, I got a voucher from Beefeater Inns today, for my free lunch at The Stanborough. £30! Wow. So there will be steak when I'm feeling better, oh yes :D

11. First horror movie you remember watching?

Confession time - I'm a big, girly wuss when it comes to horror films. For heavens sakes, "Carry On Screaming" traumatised me, so you can imagine how I feel about full fledged horror movies! I avoid them like the plauge.

2 sorta exceptions, because I don't know if horror fans would consider them part of the genre.. "Aliens", which a friend once plied me with cider and got me to watch (liked it) and "Constantine", which I loved to bits but I came outta the cinema with sore stomach muscles where I'd been tensing for the next big fright. (c.f. "big, girly wuss). Oh and I loved "The Frighteners", but I don't know if that would count?

However, all that said, there was a time when I was staying over at my friend Karen's house. Her parents were out and we were trusted to be on our own, so I'm thinking we must have been 13 or 14 at the time. There was me, Karen and Karen's younger brother, Neil. Naturally, we had the TV on and left it on while we were playing whatever board game was the game du jour and it drifted into the late Saturday night movie which was a horror movie called "The Survivor" (Huge, huge props to [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift for helping me track this down, btw). Well none of us really watched horror movies but we all kinda talked ourselves into it. Besides, it starred Robert Powell whom we all liked, and Jenny Agutter who we knew only from The Railway Children, so how bad could it be, right?

It was terrifying!

What we did was we each took it in turns to watch for five minutes while the others kinda hid and then we'd say what happened and switch places :P The basic premise of the movie was that there was a catastrophic plane crash where the only survivor is the pilot, who walks out without a scratch. He doesn't know why he survived and he tries to find out. There is a few evil twists that I'm fairly sure M.Night Shyamalan copied down for future reference but back then, it was pretty darn shocking.

We maaaaay have left the hall lights on when we finally went to bed *whistles innocently*

Work news - didn't go into work today, still queasy and just couldn't face another day of being bored outta my skull and feeling crappy. Feel better this evening though so will be going in tomorrow. There may have been happy flailing over Inception with [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift, which was great fun, plus I'm watching shiny, shiny White Collar S1 DVDs *cuddles her show*

Rob T Furball was VERY pleased not to be abandoned. He's going to be Unhappy tomorrow :P You should heard the yowling I got Monday when he realised both me and [livejournal.com profile] thessalian were leaving the house and cruelly abandoning him. Bless his fuzzy four paws *scritches the snoring lump*

So last night I had trouble sleeping. Now my sleep patterns do occasionally get a lil' screwed over a weekend and I am prone to the odd bout of insomnia but this was bad even by my standards. I was dreaming about how difficult it was to get to sleep, and that I was shift position in bed to get comfy and I'd half surface and realise my dream was mirroring what I was actually doing. Never good.

I felt like crap when the alarm went off and so bowed to the inevitable, emailed the bosses, said had crap night's sleep, would grab a few more hours and then come in. And I really was going to, because not even I would believe me that I was ill on the opening day of Wimbledon. During the World Cup :P But as I snuggled back down and attempted to doze off, I realised I had a low grade stomach ache. That turned into a higher grade pain. That finally got me up at 11 whimpering for mercy. A trip to the bathroom confirmed something was wrong, that I'd either eaten something that disagreed with me or I had a stomach bug of some kind.

About 30 minutes later I was sick as a dog. :P

Called into work, abandoned all plans at consciousness, didn't even attempt to have tea or watch the football or tennis. Just burrowed down and snoozed until about 3pm. Felt a smidge better but the nausea didn't really ease off until evening, when I risked some tea, toast and chicken pieces. Still not a 100 per cent but hopefully a full night's sleep will sort me out. Still got no idea what it is - can't think of anything I ate yesterday that would give me this kind of reaction - but will see how I feel in the morning. If I'm still nauseous, 'm going to the doc's.

At least the tennis and football was good, what I saw of it :) Slept right through Portugal thrashing NK 7-0 though, dammit.

No TV Meme today because I didn't feel like it. Will catch up tomorrow!

I've spent all morning communing with my duvet, only prising myself out for the most necessary of things. Still feel like crap but my nose isn't running as much. Today is definitely cancelled due to lack of interest.

Happily I've got my NCIS dvds. I WOULD have a very shiny new episode of Private Practice to watch by now, featuring Idina, but it seems the world and his dog wants this ep and the download speeds are awful. I may be able to watch it this evening :P *pokes download crossly* Ack, 15 hours to download? OK, I may be able to watch it tomorrow :P

So how is my cuddly flist? Are you all well and enjoying your Friday?

Buggerit, I've come down with a stinking cold. Started thinking I was coming down with something at lunchtime: by 2pm I was sneezing my head off. So I came home early and I've been curled up with lemsips, hot water bottle and watching NCIS dvds ever since. Oh, and there was a 3 hour nap. Suspect 'm not going to be at work tomorrow :P

...when your kitty cat curls up next to you his head on your thigh, and he's all warm and purry.

*sighs happily*

Feeling a smidge better now, thank you for the well wishes. Annoyingly, I've reached that point where I still feel not quite OK but not badly enough to take more time off work. I'm hoping it'll be clearer one way or the other tomorrow, preferably in the "feel 100%" bit.
