Techie Woes - [livejournal.com profile] silenttex, <user site="livejournal.com" user="bib

My new computer, it is very shiny. But I've hit two major, major snags. First know that I have now installed XP (from a licenced MS OS disk) and that the first problem existed in both Vista and XP but the second is a "since the reinstall" problem.

Snag the first: BAHLEETED - [livejournal.com profile] doccy fixed! Yay!

Snag the second: BAHLEETED - [livejournal.com profile] doccy fixed! Yay!

Otherwise, I am very happy with the new box. I watched two tv shows and some YouTube videos yesterday and it didn't crash once! \o/ Joy to the mousey :)

Can't really....officially the compy was sold to me with Vista :( If I lie and say Vista is still on there, I could ask for help with the network thing, I guess, but then if they gave me instructions as to what options to set, there's no guarantee I'd be able to work out the XP equivalent to be sure enough that I'm doing the right thing. It'll have to be a last resort.

IT WORKED!! *has Glee*

Sorry, didn't check LJ over the weekend. Glad it's sorted (whatever it was).
Why the downgrade from Vista to Xp? Just curious. I've got Vista on my new laptop and TBH I don't see what the big anti-vista outcry is about. I haven't found the UAC too intrusive, and I got used to the new navigation pretty quickly.

Just not a Vista fan, prefer XP. I will upgrade to Windows 7 though, I'm hearing good things about that. But Vista I can quite happily give a miss :)

Oh, while you're here, you use DVD43 right? I had that on the old XP box and it all worked splendidly. It's still sort of working on the new XP box in that it'll play the R1 dvd just fine..but it won't display the dvd menu (any dvd menu) for longer than 5 seconds. *blinks* Have you come across this before? I have no idea where to even start troubleshooting this. (This has happened with a DVD I have previously used with DVD43 and XP and had no bother at all...)

Haven't come across that before, and there's next to no support info on the web for DVD43. You could try the latest version (4.4.1 http://www.dvd43.com/). Or reinstalling the version you have.
I thought DVD43 had been abandoned by the developer, but the website says there was an update in 2009. I think DVD43 may have been bought by Slysoft - they do DVD copying software. (AnyDVD)
I've seen some good reviews of DVDFab, but that doesn't decrypt on-the-fly. You have to decode it to HDD and then play the film from there.

*looks* Yeh, that's the version I downloaded yesterday. I'll re-install it and, if that doesn't work, see if I can rip the older version off my old hard drive and use that. And if that doesn't work, I'll just have to get very quick with the mouse :D Cheers!

Well after uninstalling and reinstalling realplayer, K-Lite Codec Pack and DVD43 several times, I've apparently fixed the problem. Nooooo idea what I did differently but hey, it's working now! :)
