I should really do an update. Perhaps I can make a New Year's Resolution to stop neglecting my LJ *cuddles it* I do read my flist religiously though, so it's not totally neglected!

So, state of the mousey. I started the secondment post on Dec 20th and so far it's going very well. It's a small team (3 other people) and they're all lovely. I will have to think up nicknames for them at some point :) I am not missing School Funding in the slightest - it's so nice to come into work and actually give a crap about what I'm doing. Also, I'm way busier and that's making the time go much faster. (Yes, I've got time to type this up right now but it's Friday and generally quieter then anyway.)

I am finding that I'm saving a small fortune by being able to walk to work. Not only am I not using the car and saving fuel, but I'm not making the regular stops at Morrison's on the way home and buying bits and bobs. It's meaning I'm saving on groceries too :) Also, although it's a short walk, I'm particularly enjoying the fresh air at the end of the day, it's a good way to unwind and stretch a bit after being at a desk all day.

Next month 'm off to Cornwall for 3 days to stay with the ever lovely [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift and [livejournal.com profile] doccy. Be lovely to see them, haven't seen them since last May when [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 and I stayed there for the week.

Next major holiday is being plotted for end of May - another trip to New York. Hey, I can't go a whole year without a NYC visit, it just Wouldn't Do! :D

Regarding my previous job, there have been Developments recently. You remember TooBrightTies? Well his job has been vacant since he left but they've finally got off their collective backsides and appointed someone - and FogHorn's got the job! I think she's leapt at least 2 pay grades. I am so glad not to be in the office right now because I have no idea how they're going to fill the gap she'll leave, as pretty much half the office reported to her. I mean, she'll still be there, but there's no way she can do the Manager's job AND her old job at the same time, it'd kill her. I'm hoping to get some gossip from StillWaters on the subject - there was a team meeting this week and I want the details :) Also, there was a big Finance meeting yesterday and I'd like some info about that too.

What does this mean for me? No clue. I still think there's a good chance my role could be earmarked for redundancy. I have been told that this current post is definitely temporary and that there's no permanent position to be filled within the team, so I have to accept that I've got to go back to School Funding or find something else at the end of this secondment. I violently don't want to go back, especially when I'm pretty sure I'm going to be eased out anyway. We'll have to see what comes up over the next few months. However, I'm not worrying about it right now, 'm just enjoying the job I'm doing :)

So to sum up, life is good and going well. Hurrah!

Could you do Foghorn's old job?

No, she's a qualified accountant and I'm not :)

What do you have to do to become qualified for it? Where I work we have a mix of people who have degrees (yes, I have a degree in Business Management with an accountacy concentration, woo hoo,) and people who moved up by taking the classes they needed to for the position without getting the degrees.

I would have to study for various exams for recognised financial qualifications, CCPA or somesuch thing. But I don't really want to BE an accountant so it seems unwise to go down that route, even assuming there was still the budget at work to help me get the training, which I suspect there isn't.

Ah. I don't want to be an accountant, either, but somehow I seem to be. Actually, if I was doing accounting I probably wouldn't mind. But as a Senior Accounting Officer I seem to be doing inventory and nothing.

You'll be around in early May, though, yes?

Yeh, if I go to NYC, it'll be the 3rd or 4th week of May. Fret not, I'll be here for your visit :D

Yay for actually liking your job. I hope it stays fun! Give my love to [profile] halcyon_shift & [livejournal.com profile] doccy.

I will :) Although they do have LJ's, you can post there too :D

How are you? Are you in a position to have an evening off for movie night yet? :D

With a little planning I can get [livejournal.com profile] bytepilot to babysit while I go off gadding. Currently I think we're even on babysitting while the other goes out.

Alternatively DVD movie night here is easy. We might have to pause it sometimes, but the popcorn is free.

Wow, that sounds nice. I'm not sure I remember what that feels like.
